Gene had PT today so I was going to sketch in a sketchbook. I had my bag, but had taken my sketchbooks out to post some of the last sketches. I did have watercolors and pens, etc. So... I sketched on my iPhone. I put in about 20 minutes on the sketch. I thought Gene might finish early as his knee was a little sore.
It was summer today. I think the high was 84 or 86 degrees F. A record for the day. I did not mind at all. I do not appreciate cold weather.
We went to Physical Therapy on Monday. I forgot my sketchbook and sketched on my iPhone. Gene wanted to leave early so I didn't really finish. Then with lack of time and enthusiasm I never posted it. Time to do so now!
Number 3, green - a little mini aloe plant on the counter. It is about 6 inches top to bottom. The sketch looks much better small on my phone. :-)
We have been busy. Larry came out Tuesday night and we cooked the meat for the tamales and chile balls. On Wednesday we made the tamales and enchilada casserole and then Joanna, Jennie and Brandon came and helped finish up. I had made peanut butter cookies and Gene got some homemade coconut chocolate candy. Brandon brought candy, Joanna made Tollhouse cookies. We have been trying to eat it all up. Tortillas, posse, rice and beans and fruit salad and probably more. We played cards and a new game called Close the Box. Lots of good times.
Gene can't do much to help but keeps us all going and cheers us on. He did play the game with us and won a couple of rounds. For someone that doesn't like games, he did well.
Tomorrow will be more games and maybe Margaritas.

Even though we extended the number of days for each Hunt, it is already a new Hunt. I didn't do many sketches last Hunt. Maybe, just maybe I will do better this Hunt.
I sketched out on the porch yesterday on my iPhone with fingers. Took too long and is sort of vague. Looks like mountains in the back with the hard lines, but is just more trees.

Boy, summer is arriving faster than we want. It was so humid on the porch this morning. The heat index is about plus 10 so the 80º feels like 90º.
For the Hunt is used my "free" space and tried to capture the hard working fan on my iPhone. It is interesting that it is harder to sketch on the iPhone than the iPad even though I use the same app. Guess it could be my fat fingers in a smaller space.
A new Hunt starts today. Hope to get a few more done.
We actually went to baseball yesterday. It was a great day for it. Good weather not too sunny or hot. About half full. Saw a few folks from the old days. Visited with Joanna and Esther, Joanna's friend from work, and baseball. I forgot my sketchbook. An item on the new Hunt was people in uniform so my plan was to sketch the players. Because sketches for the Hunt are supposed to be from life and I wouldn't be back to a game soon, I decided to sketch on my phone with the app, Brushes.
The sketches took forever so I missed some of the action. Players all stand in similar stances but I tried to do the sketching of gestures when the same player was batting or pitching. Not so good, but not so bad.

Photo with the colors. The Longhorns are burnt orange and white and Oklahoma State Cowboys are bright orange and black.
They used to play the song, "Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up to Be Cowboys" at the end of the game, but that is not allowed anymore. Sigh..... They used to play "God Bless Texas" but not now.
Universities allow hate speech and intimidation from the far left but no positive conservative speech. Only free speech if you agree. I saw on the news that something like only 20% of young students or other youngsters are proud to be Americans these days. I'm embarrassed for them. They should try living in one of the countries they are supporting and see how free they are.

I was trying to sketch without using the "undo" very often. I did use it to "try" to keep my lines straight. I didn't want to use another app to make straight lines. I was fairly pleased as it took about 45 minutes zooming in and out and changing colors. Now that it is posted I see that I left off the hinge on the upper left and the hinges on the bottom of the doors. It would be a little insecure that way, don't you think? Sigh... No do overs though. Things to do and places to go.... Not really, more like lazy. I just didn't want to spend more time to fix that. The shapes were more important in this sketch. Geometric!
Where else? On the porch on my iPhone. The height of laziness to not go get a sketchbook. I used the app Brushes and my fingers. Pretty sketchy for a sketch.

Number 4, has two similar shaped parts - Gene's binoculars.
I don't know how I get so distracted or side tracked. I forgot to take a sketchbook to the doctor's office. (We were having annual checkups.) We sat down and I saw a water fountain flat on the wall. How unusual? I immediately thought of the Scavenger Hunt from Life where one of the items was "unusual". Perfect, right?
I got out my phone and proceeded to sketch with the app, Brushes, and my fingers. When I got home and was checking the list, I found the item was not "unusual" but it was "it is usual". At least I did a sketch so my fountain is a sub for "it is usual".

Number 1, it is usual - substitute a water fountain that is unusual.
You can't see the water running down the flat rock but it looks very neat. Just sort of shimmery. The mirrors on the pillar are unusual as well, but I did not include them in my sketch.
Our checkups were excellent. Doc says we are in good shape for the condition we are in. Or maybe it is in good condition for the shape we are in? :-)
Our weekend was super! Bag blog (Lou) and husband (Toby) came to visit. They had been to the Texas Clay Festival in Gruen. They visited the Festival and came and stayed a couple of nights. Larry, Jennie and Joanna all stopped by to meet them. We had a great visit but did not get around to doing any art. Lou had her watercolor sketch bag and we talked about it but with all the visiting we didn't get in any painting. They enjoyed the festival and it was fun hearing about that. Unbelievable prices on the pottery. Guess all art is priced for who will buy it.
I missed the Austin Pastel meeting on Sunday. It was on Zoom. The artist demonstrating was Lyn Diefenbach from Australia. She was up early Monday morning to do the demo for us at 230 p.m on Sunday. This is National Domestic Violence Awareness month and I went with my friend Susan to the annual Women's Leadership Luncheon. Lunch catered by our friend John Chabot. So lovely. The speeches were inspiring and hope the fundraising and awareness help the victims of domestic violence. It touches almost everyone regardless of race or social standing. 1 out of 3 women and 1 out of 4 men are affected. The luncheon was sponsored by the Family Crisis Center where Gene and I have volunteered for years. They help families, students and anyone that comes to the center for help. They have a store where they take donations to help and sell. Our center helps four counties and always needs donations and volunteers. We walked this morning. Gene really needs to get back to walking after his eye surgery. With Parkinson's the muscles forget how to function. I was going to try my new Sharpie gel pen but forgot the sketchbook. We sat and I sketched on my iPhone. I was hoping it would fit in the Scavenger Hunt from Life. In a stretch it can fit.

Our printer adventure:
I spent several hours looking for a printer over a couple of days. I was so excited to find one. Every one I found under $800 was out of stock. Even on the dreaded Amazon. There are several Office Depot stores in Austin and I had to look at the inventory of each store. Any inventory at a store was not available for shipping. At about the third store I found a laser printer/scanner/fax for $399. I hit buy and went to tell Gene we could pick it up next morning. The minute I said that to him I realized I had failed to see if it would work on my computer. Most would work on Gene's. Back to my order. It did show that it would work on Gene's. Whew.
Then, the next day, we went to pick up the new Brother printer in Austin. We met Joanna for lunch at the Chinese Family, it was very good. We left and arrived at Office Depot a few minutes away. I got out and went to get my purse in the back seat and .... no purse! Looked in the back and everywhere. Back to the restaurant which was closed from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. and it was now about 3:00 p.m. as we had overstayed our time. All dark inside. Knocked and a gentleman and tiny girl answered. He spoke no English but let me look. No purse.
Back to pick up the printer and would come back to the restaurant at 4:30 p.m. to see if the waitress had put it someplace. No problem at Office Depot, a young man loaded the printer in the back. It weighs about 50 pounds, double the old inkjet printer. So what to do. Jerry's Artarama is just across the street. Gene could sit inside and I could shop, we had about an hour to wait. Of course I found something to buy. Spent about $75 on "stuff".
Some pastel paper, new travel size sketchbook, a pink and yellow watercolor paint and the above mentioned gel pen. I wanted a new Canson Mix Media sketchbook but they didn't have any, will try this one. Paper feels nice but may not take any heavy watercolor.
I've been wanting to get a new "pink" watercolor. I found this Opera Rose, Winsor Newton, we shall see. The other brands that had a good selection were so expensive and I'm not a watercolorist to spend a lot on that. I was also out of a light yellow. There was a brand called Turner which was reasonable so got that.
We left Jerry's about 4:15 p.m. As I got in the drivers seat what do I see? My purse was on the floor. The light was just right to see the black purse on the black floor. I don't usually put my purse there because it could slip under the brake or something and cause me to have a wreck. But .... there it was. I never even considered looking there!!
We got home and I set up the printer/scanner yesterday. A bit of a learning curve for the scanner but it works with my old computer! Yay! It is very fast. Special printings will be one page at a time but... I was so afraid I wouldn't find a printer that would work with my old iMac.
All is well in my art studio world!
I'm sketching for Scavenger Hunt from Life #26. We always have an adventure just going to do the most mundane things. Gene got a call on Thursday that his previous blood draw needed repeating as something was high and they wanted to repeat while fasting. Friday we got up and went to the lab at the doctor's office. They said we wouldn't have to wait long like you do in the lab upstairs. We fasted and got their about 8:15 thinking we would go to breakfast after. Well, we waited and waited. Finally asked and the nurse said she didn't know we were there or why, she would check. Finally about 10:00 they decided that Gene's previous draw was fine and all was normal. We could leave. I wonder who didn't get the call to have their blood drawn again. Hmmmm.

Number 7, overhead - we walked yesterday and I sketched from a bench by the pond/lake in the travel sketchbook with a Zig Millennium 05. Perspective like that is hard. Need to do more overhead items!
The Longhorns won the Regional. The Air Force Falcons are amazing. They are all officers and mostly pilots at the Air Force Academy. One was going on to medical school the others to regular service flying and serving to keep us free. They all salute the flag and each other when they make a home run or a great play. So polite and respectful, but still strong competitors and fun to see and they have fun, too. They hadn't been in a Regional tournament since the 1960s. I hated to see them lose. Dang. I'm happy they came to play in Austin.
The other teams were Louisiana Tech and Dallas Baptist. They played hard as well. And a good time was had by all. It is hard just to get to the Regionals so cheers for them all.
The Longhorns go on to the Super Regional next weekend. We won't know until this afternoon if they will play here or at Eastern Carolina.
Our other team, Texas State Bobcats, where Larry went to school, went to the Regional at Stanford. They play today for the championship there. If they win over Stanford they might get a Regional in San Marcos. That would be a first and could end up with one in Austin and one in San Marcos.

A new Hunt is underway. Doesn't the time seem to get shorter and shorter? One item was "something to do with art". We were waiting to go to Austin for Gene's second cataract surgery so we were on the porch. I quickly sketched on my iPhone for this prompt.

I also sketched while we were waiting at the hospital for the surgery. We got there at 12, and he was supposed to be there at 12:15. We were still in the pre-op after 2:00 p.m. They came for him at 2:14 and he was back at 2:48 pm so the shortest wait time was during the surgery.
Number 2, vehicle - the chair/bed/vehicle to take Gene into surgery and bring him back. So Gene's vehicle.
The surgery went well, check up today at 1255pm.

After I wrote the title, I realized that sounds like an association of hunters. Of course, it is not in my world. Joe from Florida, gave us a list for Scavenger Hunt 692 with the challenge of associating the item and finding a new item to sketch. He used the idea of:
something with 2 sides - paper - money - coins - coin jar - peanut butter - sandwich, two sides You don't have to end up with 2 sides, you could stop at any point like peanut butter.
That is way too much for my brain, so I just sketched the items on the list.

You get two days of sketches for the price of one. For Scavenger Hunt 688 I sketched in the living room on my footstool while we watched TV. Another two for one idea, right?
We haven't acquired jigsaw puzzles. We used to have many of them. This one has been worked a few times, need to get another one. Gene's mom loved puzzles and would make a new piece if any got lost. She was very good at that, using cereal boxes for the cardboard and painting them and varnishing them. We put together many puzzles.

Today I sketched on the porch. Gene was on his trike and I was having my morning snack. I only had my phone with me and thought I should be sketching. Too lazy to go get the big book and items so just sketched with the App, Brushes, on my iPhone with my fingers and used the items on hand.
When I got the sketch on my computer to resize and post here I found that the shoes and socks looked pretty brown. I didn't want to transfer again so put the sketch in Sketchbook Pro on my computer and spray painted some black over the shoes and socks. Sort of worked, eh? I saw that I didn't put in the foot stool so the feet are sort of floating or suspended in the air. Maybe that was my exercising for today.
