Scavenger Hunt 627 Back to Color

I had every intention of getting out the pastels because I put "blue" on the list for that purpose.  We got interested in stuff on TV and there went that idea.

I did sketch in color on my iPhone with the app Brushes and my fingers while we watched.  I don't even remember what we were watching .. must have been important!

Number 1, blue - a blue wine glass and a pottery butter dish from Mexico.  No surprise to have blue on my list.

I still wanted to use pastels.  I found a piece of Pastelmat that I had a landscape on.  I wiped that off and scribbled on a bit of darker color.  I only spent about 15 minutes on this sketch.  It was good to feel the pastel sticks in my hands.

Number 2, glass - a small glass dessert dish from the 60s.  About 8 x 6 inches with a variety of pastels.  The shadow looks almost like a saucer here in the photo.  Hmmm.

One of the challenges for the Hunt is to do the items in order.  So far so good.  Next is towel rack, then fence.... It is supposed to be rainy for a week.  We will see if I keep the order going.

The glass dessert dish that you painted is beautiful, Jo. I love how loosely you painted it. Nice background as well. keep it up....STAY SAFE!!!

hmuxo, thank you so much. I had a good teacher for glass in Bolivia many years ago. This sketch doesn't sho much but she said to paint the light and shadows and not to think about the object. The edge toward the light is darker .. odd but works. My light on this was from high on the left so not too true for that.

Going through a blue period? Ha! I like the sketches. Tell me what you think of the pastelmat. I saw it on one of the art catalogs and thought about getting it.

Hi Bag Blog, thanks. Yep, it is pretty blue around here.

Pastelmat is good for small paintings. It is pretty smooth so doesn't hold a lot of pastel, but does grab on to what is there. That is what I wiped off for the glass dish and you can maybe see the yellow and shapes in the background. Interesting. I bought a tablet of the small size and it comes with glassine between the pages. Good for storing without framing. Not sure if I would like to do a large painting on it.

I'm partial to Pastelbord for framing. Gene puts the glass right against the board, tapes it into a package and you can pop in and out of frames. Heavier for storing of course. Pastelmat would require a backing for framing. I would still tape it to the glass first. I never use mats anymore. No worry about dust falling on the mat and glass.
