Sunshine Blog Award

Rosemary Sexton was kind enough to bestow the Sunshine Blog Award to me and my blog. That is so nice. I am supposed to pass it on to my favorite blogs. You already know my favorite blogs so I think the best thing is to do is bestow this back to Rosemary. Go to Rosemary's post and look at the artists that she nominated. You will find some new, I hope, blogs for you and me to follow!

So let's scoot on over to Rosemary's blog and from there on to see some "new" artists. Have fun and let me know what you think. Thank you so much, Rosemary!

Kreativ Blogger Award

Rosemary Sexton awarded me the Kreativ Blogger Award the other day. We were in the middle of our move from New Mexico back to Texas so I haven't acknowledged it. Thank you, Rosemary. It is always nice to receive compliments from my peers.

Rosemary works mainly in oil. I'm not quite sure where we first crossed paths. I have enjoyed reading her blog and sharing information. She is another artist that doesn't stay put. They winter in Florida and summer in North Carolina. Maybe we will meet in person one day, hope so.

I'm supposed to tell you seven things about me. I have told you almost everything about me here on my blog already. Something new ...... hmmm.

  1. I like most food, nothing new there. I do not care for black eyed peas, they taste "sandy" to me. Sort of like clams or oysters, which are not favorites either.
  2. I like word games and card games. Most puzzles, too.
  3. I grew up riding horses, but haven't been on one since 1972.
  4. My first paying job was dishwasher at the Gopher Court and Cafe in Magdalena, New Mexico.
  5. I was the valedictorian of our high school graduating class of 15 -- 10 boys and 5 girls. Gene was salutatorian.
  6. I've known Gene, my better half, since we were 2 and 3 years old, respectfully. I married him to get even. :)
  7. I'm a procrastinator and lazy. Oh, you already know that!

I will bestow this award on to a few of my artist/blogger friends that are not obligated in any way to pass it on. I am just doing this to point to some great artists and great blogs.

  1. Regina Calton Burchett, great pastelist and art buddy. We met about 1997 or 1998 in Bastrop. She is multi talented and we have had a great time sharing art and painting together. Regina shares and helps others in many ways. I'm looking forward to painting with her soon!
  2. Jeanne Grant, a dedicated sketching friend from wetcanvas.com. She has not missed a Scavenger Hunt and has improved her drawing skills tremendously over these few years. She takes part in many areas of wetcanvas and is always an inspiration.
  3. Lou Baggett, an artist that found my blog somehow. We have corresponded for a few years and finally met in Oklahoma last June. We have so much in common that we may be related. She tells a great story and does wonderful artwork.
  4. Rose Welty, one of my Fine Art Friends. We haven't met in person, but I hope to soon. She is dedicated to learning and teaching and inspires me. She shares her knowledge and I rely on her for researching and reading up on techniques and artists. :)
  5. Tom Christopher, a pastelist I "met" on wetcanvas, too. He is wonderful with light and pastel techniques.
  6. Teresa, Blueberries, Art and Life, works in acrylics, watercolor and colored pencil. I visited her blog because of the "Blueberries" and have really enjoyed reading her blog. She was an English city girl and now is in North Carolina in the country. Great writer, too.
  7. Johanne Morin, pastelist and more. I met Johanne through the Austin Pastel Society. She has mastered pastels, wood carving and burning and oil painting in the few years I have known her.
You can always find more artists and bloggers in my sidebar. They all deserve awards, right?

Award from Joan

Thank you Joan, for this award. I appreciate the kind words you said about me and how good it makes me feel. Joan Tavolott is an artist that I became acquainted with on the Scavenger Hunts on wet canvas. She does amazing sketches and beautiful watercolor paintings. Be sure and click on the link to read about the award and see the other artists she honored.

I pass this award along to those of you that I follow on my blog. That is a few more than seven. :) I regularly check and read about twenty blogs daily, and about 80 blogs pretty often. I'm not counting the artist magazine blogs like the Pastel Journal blog, etc. It is hard to pick only seven. You know who you are.

Some of my favorites are on the blog roll in the side bar, I try to keep the blog roll to artists that post often. Some really good artists with great information don't post daily so I don't put them on the blog roll. I also like to change the blog roll once in a while so you will find new artists .. should I put all of them there? Hmmm.

I just had an idea, I will post one or two of the blogs I read at the end of each one of my posts. It can be my daily awards! You will see how many there are in a few months! My Blogs of the Day will be numbered so we will find out how many there are, no particular order.

Jo's Blogs of the Day:
  1. Joan Tavolott, Watercolor and Sketching, read above -- Watercolors by Joan
  2. Regina Burchett, Friend and pastel buddy -- Fall Shadows
  3. Rose Welty, Fine Art Friend -- Rose Welty, Studio Talk
So there you are then, we will see how this list grows.

Thanks again, Joan.

Passion Award

Sheona Hamilton Grant is an amazing black and white artist. I posted about her earlier, her work is so wonderful. Well, she took the time to give me an award for my blog. Wonderful lady and exceptional artist. Take a look at her post when she received this award, very cool.

Thank you Sheona, you are so nice to think of me.

It is a hard act to follow Sheona's clever post, but here goes anyway. I recently posted seven of my loves, I will provide seven more as it looks like these awards are tied together.

  1. Beautiful sunsets and rainbows. I got this from my Mom I think, she was always taking photos of rainbows and sunsets.
  2. Bolivia, we lived there for about 10 years divided by two different times. La Paz and the altiplano are my favorite places. It is like New Mexico only 5,000 feet higher. The people are wonderful.
  3. Games, I love word games and card games. Some puzzles.
  4. Reading, although I don't do much of that lately. I love the Tony Hillerman series about the Navajos.
  5. Horses, I had two growing up. A half shetland when I was 10 or so and then a quarter horse when I was in high school. My Dad had corrals at the rodeo grounds and I would go down to feed Nieto, my horse, before school. He was so spoiled, I would let him out of his corral and he would follow me to the barn and back. Most of the time! On occasion he would run off and just run for a while and then come back. I would be late for school and the principal would look at me and shake his head and tell me he didn't want to hear about it. :)
  6. I love talking, but I have a horrible memory so will probably post more than once about anything.
  7. Food, I'm not sure if I just love food or am addicted. I have been a good cook, but it is because I love to eat. I am gluten intollerant and miss just regular bread for sandwiches, burgers and flour tortillas. Sigh.......
So now we are in dangerous territory as I can just keep going/talking. Enough, already, as they say.

I am supposed to pass this on to seven bloggers. You already know that I don't do that, I can't choose. But if you know of someone very special, please pass this award on to them, it will make them smile and feel good. Sheona, thank you so much!

Take a look at the artists that Sheona listed, they are new to me and great. If you pass this award along please comment so we can go check out those artists/bloggers, too!

Art Blog Award - Double

Way, way back on the fourth of February, I was given an award by James Parker. You will find that he publishes several blogs. I was so busy and put the award aside to work on later. I apologize to Mr. Parker and thank him for his passing the award to me. Thank you!

The award asks you to list seven things you love and pass the award on to seven artists. How can I pick seven loves or seven artists?

Loves:
  1. My Family
  2. Making Art
  3. Travel
  4. The High Desert
  5. Chocolate
  6. Wine
  7. Coffee
Guess the list could go on, and other than number one and two, they can change depending on my mood. Gene would say eating is number one, but I just think I haven't found many foods I don't like. Ah well.

You all know I don't do memes and pass things on, so if any one of you would like to add this to your blog and give out some awards, please do. I pass it on to all of you that comment on my blog and all the blogs I follow. That is definitely more than seven! Awards to all of you!

Hold on, hold on! I was just given this award again, by Jeanne Grant. She is a member of our Scavenger Hunts and has been the most dedicated sketcher. She is becoming an expert in sketching with colored pencil. She has posted something in every Scavenger Hunt, no matter what. She has been great in encouraging me to keep sketching. Thank you Jeanne!!! You deserve your award!

Time to spare....Meme

Those of us with so much time on our hands will find interesting ways to pass that time. Joanna, my computer guru daughter, found this one. Rather than repeat all the info required to do this, go visit Joanna's page and come up with an album cover of your own. Let me know and I will link to it. Here is mine.

Asella is a town in Ethiopia from Wikipedia.

mouth, pure of hands. My quote: "Hail to you gods, on that day of the great reckoning. Behold me, I have come to you, without sin, without guild, without evil, without a witness against me, without one whom I have wronged. I am one pure of mouth, pure of hands. " -- The Book of the Dead, The Address to the Gods, 1700-1000 B.C.

The photo is from wetcanvas.com because Flickr wasn't working last night or early this morning. I just checked again and it is working, so here is the new cover. The image sort of changes the flavor, huh?
