We had dinner from the Roadhouse in Bastrop last night. I went and picked up salads. They make great ones, even though they are famous for their burgers with homemade buns. As I parked for pickup I noticed the barbecue place next door has a sign up so thought of "business" on the Hunt list and quickly sketched. I didn't quite finish but worked on it another few minutes at home while the image was fresh.
The building is an old imported one of old barn wood and tin. They put an interesting tin ornament on top. It isn't a weather vane, at least it doesn't have the arms. I wonder......
I forgot to check the number when I got home so it appears to be #5 - business. It is also strange that it never seems to be open. I did read on some social place that the BBQ is very good. This sketch is in the little travel sketchbook with the Acurit 03 pen.
Number 6, made of stone or concrete - some cinder blocks stacked by the red shed. Sketched in the Canson Mix Media large sketchbook with the Blick gray markers. The blocks are square cube shapes. A couple are black. Gene painted them for a TV stand for Jennie at some point with black 2 x 12 inch boards for the shelves. They worked for a long time. Now they gather bugs and weeds. The discarded planters have some sort of green stuff growing in them.

We are off to San Marcos to deliver a painting to a high school friend and have dinner with Jerry and his wife along with Larry and maybe Joanna. Should be fun. Eating at Palmer's. We haven't been there in ages. They aren't open everyday now and only for dinner so hard to fit into our "daytime" schedules. We shall see if they are up to their old standards. They used to have a corn tortilla crusted fish dish that I liked. I didn't look at the menu so I can be surprised.
Hmmm, thunder. We may get wet. We are wash and wear.....

Mmm...barbeque, one of my favorites. We just had pulled pork sandwiches. I have a recipe to make it in the crock pot.
Have fun at dinner! I hope it is as good as you remember.
Joan, thanks so much. Your pork sandwiches sound great. Our dinner was about a 6 out of 10. It is such a nice quiet place to eat where you can visit so that is great. It is also decent prices. Should up to a 7 for the nice atmosphere. :-)
Good sketches Jo
I was commenting and hit some button, but I don't know what. My comment disappeared or was possibly sent. Who knows? I was saying that it had been a few years since we ate with you and Gene at Palmers.
Nice sketches! I like the stone and concrete with its darks and lights.
ashok, thank you so much. :-)
bag blog, I didn't find a duplicate. When we ate at Palmers that was about the last time we went. They closed during Covid and now are only open weekends for dinner and Sunday brunch I think. Thanks for the comments on the sketches. I was in a hurry because .....??? Happy to hear from you.
