Watercolor is a challenge for me. It certainly makes me think. I put up the photos for the challenge on creativespark this time. You may want to practice and paint along with us.

I "painted" in the Canson Watercolor sketchbook, 9 x 12 inches. My drawing is not accurate and that doesn't help when I start with the watercolors. One of my problems is that I am lazy. I have a color chart I made with Pomona Hallenbeck in my only watercolor class. I should have used it to find the shadow color.
This is from my photo of some geraniums that I took. The painting is not even close. Sigh...
Patience would help my results.
I prefer pastels.....

Just remember...you've been doing pastels for so much longer. It is hard to start with a new medium when you have such a good one to fall back on. I give you a lot of credit for trying and doing so well.
Your pastels are always amazing - especially your reds. The watercolor photo has great lights and darks. It's a challenge to get great darks in watercolor. Sometimes it takes several layers.
Joan, thanks. Kay Smith on creativespark recommends I wash over with blue to cool off the shadows. I will try that.
bag blog, thank you. Your pastels and watercolors are so good. I will try a layer of blue. I'll have to look up which blue Kay said to use. (She is in Big Spring, we've talked on the phone but never met. I was always going to stop and meet her on the way to NM but she would be in Ruidoso when we were in Angel Fire. Ha.)
I think Jo you did a great job with your pot. For sure watercolor is a challenge. Especially it becomes so when your pastels are what you work with the most often. Love your geranium painting in the pastel. Have a delightful day. Hugs!
Hi Debbie, thanks for the comments. I'm hoping that by playing a bit in watercolor, a "strange" medium, I might regain some umph for painting more.
