Hollyhock Pastel

It is a gloomy day.   Scattered light rain squalls.  Just enough to keep everything wet and the internet and phone is slow motion.  Sigh....Living in the boonies is so great except for ...... electronics.

At least I was prompted to get out the pastels and play in the dust.  The Southwest April Challenge had a beautiful Hollyhock that Kay posted.  I love Hollyhocks and decided to do a quick sketchy pastel.

This is Kay's Hollyhock in soft pastel on Canson Mi-Teintes paper, 8 x 10 inches

Not exactly the color of pink and green that I wanted, but it was a good couple of hours in the zone and mind off other things.  As Larry,

We walked around the westerly lake yesterday and found quite a few Wine Cups.  They are so tiny and a beautiful fuchsia color.

This is one of the larger blooms and is about the size of a quarter.

I haven't taken many photos from this side of the easterly lake.

This was from a few days ago.  Always nice to see.

Jo a gorgeous pastel of the hollyhock. I painted hollyhocks in pastel several years ago. Love yours and all the detail you captured. It is always a delight to see your art. Hope you are having a super day. Hugs!

Perfect hollyhock Jo. I’ve been trying to draw flowers and I won’t try anymore..maybe a mental block...but I just can’t do it... I’ll enjoy yours and everyone else’s... ❤️❤️ Have a wonderful day!!!!

Debbie, thank you. Flowers are fun to paint. I find it a bit hard to show how delicate they are. Hollyhocks are a little bit tough, I guess to withstand the dry cool climate in New Mexico. Don't see any around here in this heat and humidity.

hmuxo, thanks so much. I was trying to paint glass in Bolivia and my teacher said just paint the light and shadows. don't paint the bottle. I found that works for almost anything. I'm sure it would make flowers easier for you as you paint portraits and other things so beautifully.

Wonderful days back to both of you. :-)

Lovely job on the hollyhocks!! Great colors!! I so rarely see them here for some reason.

Have been having a lot of pain and problems waling for quite a while but have been trying to ignore it. Finally went to the orthopedist and like I was dreading, I need to have my left hip replaced. Am scheduled for surgery next month so I am trying to coordinate all the clearances from my doctors and dentist so it happens on schedule. Not looking forward to it but the way it is is making life painful and difficult unless I sit still...and then I can't get up when I need to. Hopefully all will go well.

Joan, thank you so much. I don't see hollyhocks here either, too hot and humid I guess.

So sorry to hear about your necessary surgery. Will be thinking of you. I can help with your Scavenger Hunt stuff if you are signed up for then. Many hugs.....
