It was a cool morning, but is warm in the sun. Gene went out on the front porch/deck and had to move to the back for some shade.
I went out to sketch there. No tables or such so held the big sketchbook on my lap. I shouldn't be so lazy. My leg went to sleep while holding up the book. I sketched with a Micron 05 and things got a little messy.
Gene and I decided that he looks like a monkey in the sketch. I asked him, "Do you mind if I post that sketch?"
"No," he replied, "they will say, 'That is a great likeness of Gene!'"
Isn't he a good sport?
For Scavenger Hunt 509, everything on the list starts with the letter, E.

Number 5, earplugs - Gene has on his red ones
Number 6, elbow - Gene's
Number 7, eavestrough - several on the roofs
Number 8, elm or large local tree - some blue spruce out back
I sketched with a Micron 05, I should have used the Micron 005 so I could have captured the details on Gene a bit better.
I haven't been painting much lately. Sue Modrak, in Michigan, gave me a plein air umbrella a few years ago. It hasn't been used too much, but Gene put it to use here in the house when the sun was shining through the high windows! At least it is being used!
I also failed to mention that Gene's 26th anniversary of his 50th birthday was last Saturday. We had home cooked New Mexican food and a carrot cake. It was a good day with family here. Joanna and Jennie were the last to leave yesterday. It is quiet here.........so quiet.
I am an artist that paints in pastels, with some oils, and acrylics. I sketch in pen and ink. As an artist my original paintings are influenced from living in Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, Colorado, Bolivia, Peru and Chile, and travels throughout much of Canada and all our fifty States. This is my spot for posting paintings and sketches, to muse mostly about art, life and a little about UT Baseball.

Happy Birthday to Gene!!! Glad you had the family around to celebrate.
I see you have been sketching a bit. I've been too busy with the plein air event I've been doing...anyway that's my excuse. I should go look at the new hunt.
I've been thinking about all of you with the conditions in Texas caused by Harvey. It is amazing that so much rain can fall in the same place! The news stories have been horrible, but then the stories of all the people helping make you feel good. I hope things are OK at your house since I know you are near a lake.
I laughed that Gene went zip lining. My SIL just posted photos of part of her family, including her but not my brother...no heights and no tattoos for him, and they all went zip lining. I don't know if I would have the courage, although it probably goes by very fast.
Joan,
Gene says, "Thanks!"
Our house is still fine and the area. LaGrange where we go to listen to music and where "my" gallery is moving was pretty hard hit. Boy I feel for those in Houston and area. I can't imagine waking up today and the bad dream is continuing. In Bastrop there were 5,000 people displaced by the fires, but not many businesses. These thousands have lost homes and work. Wow...
Gene likes the zip lining. I think I would be OK if I didn't have to go high to start. We saw one at Niagara Falls that you walk down to and then end up by the falls, it wasn't open yet when we were there. I like roller coasters but not ferris wheels so think I could zip on that one. Ha.
Hope the plein air event goes well!
"26th anniversary of his 50th birthday" lol i like that :) Happy Birthday to him!!
Jennifer Rose, I'm smiling. Thanks!
