Photo Road Trip to OKC and Quick Sketches

We decided at the very last minute to go to the Big 12 Baseball Tournament in Oklahoma City.  It was a lot of fun.  We used to go every year but we missed a year and then got out of the habit.

It was a beautiful morning.  We headed up through Temple to get to I-35.
The grain elevators always catch my eye.  Why haven't I painted them??

There are hills in Oklahoma .. in fact quite a lot of them.

A few wind farms in Oklahoma, too.

Always road construction everywhere we go.

The clouds were ominous as we went downtown for the first Texas Baseball game.  Luckily the weather was great for the whole tournament.  There were no huge crowds, guess the weather predictions of tornadoes and hail kept the locals away.

The Longhorns lost the first game to Oklahoma State so went through the losers bracket.  They played so well after a losing season.  They won their next three games against Baylor, Oklahoma State (played them twice) and TCU.  In the first game with TCU the Horns won with a walk off home run!  Exciting. They lost the second game to TCU.  TCU won including the longest home run we have ever seen.

Luken Baker hit over the fence you see with the Longhorn in the middle.  The ball went up higher than that and came down, glanced off the top rail and hit the hotel across the alley.  Those windows are about the 5th floor that you can see.  Oh my.  Luken was the player of the tournament as the Designated Hitter, meaning he only batted for the pitcher and did not play on the field.  Very Rare.

Final score 8 - 2.  Good finish for the Horns, but the last game of their season.  TCU,  Oklahoma State and Texas Tech go on to Regionals hoping to go to the College World Series.

Augie Garrido is in the middle of this giving the Longhorns their last after game talk from him.  He will not coach anymore and will be an assistant to the Athletic Director.  Augie is the winning-est coach in baseball. http://espn.go.com/video/clip?id=15837034&ex_cid=espnapi_internal
The Longhorns have only had 4 coaches.  Amazing.

The Longhorns have a young team, only 3 seniors, so should come back strong next year.  I'm sure they will have a new style and hope it is exciting!  Hook 'em Horns.

We ate at the Bourbon Street cafe on the River Walk, our favorite place.  Alex was still there to serve us.  Yay!

Not many tourists on the boats.  The two were docked.  Still a super place to go.  We will have to go back next year!

I did a few gesture sketches when the Longhorns  weren't playing.

Crossing the Red River coming home.  It is true to its name!

We arrived home to the dandelions all headed out and the lakes overflowing again.  Thankfully no damage from the horrible flooding.   More rain expected over the next few days.

We came home to find the biggest tree at the curve in the road gone!  We haven't heard if it was lightening or just fell on its own.

Whoever was cleaning up the mess had taken the large limbs and left the trunk.
It was a pretty big tree!

The tree was the biggest one there behind the back end of the fire truck.

We stopped off to visit Toby and Lou (Bag Blog) on our way back in Duncan.  Did I get any photos??  No.  Why, oh why?  We had a great afternoon with Toby, Lou, Jesse, Shay and Lindz.  They went to Peru last year so we had fun talking about that.

All in all a great trip.

For some déjà vu all over again, check my post from our 2010 trip to Oklahoma City.  Ha.

Thanks for the trip report! Have y'all ever ridden one of the tour boats?

Joanna, we have not ridden the boats. It looks like fun. In times past they were full and had lines. This time there were few riders so you had to wait to fill the boats. Ha. One of these days we will do it!
