Hunt Sketching and Painting

I've been working on an acrylic still life painting.  I will post and talk about that when done.

I have done a few sketches over the last few days.  I finished up Scavenger Hunt 409 and now working on Hunt 410.  http://www.wetcanvas.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1382217  I sketched on the porch which is my comfort zone in the mornings.  It seems to me I do better work when I am relaxed and comfortable.  That goes for painting as well.

Think about when you paint or create the best.  Do you like to work in early morning, evening, or even at night?  I'm not always happy getting up early, but I also don't like to get a late start and I really enjoy the morning after I do get up.  The time of day doesn't seem to be as important in my studio.  I like to have music playing.  I like using iTunes so that I can have an eclectic mix of music including country, latin, classical, jazz, bluegrass, rock, blues and more.

Find your comfort zone and you will probably be more creative.

The sketches from this Hunt are opposites.  A few are inside/outside, sweet/sour and new/old.  This kind of list makes you think.  I like to come up with items I haven't sketched before.  As you will see, I did not hunt out anything new.  I sketched old standbys.

Number 1, related to summer - the straggly  hanging geranium that I took down to sketch so I am looking down at it on my footstool.
Number 2, outside - Gene's birdfeeder

I did not get sketches posted for Hunt 409 and will share them - for the record.

Number 7, green plant
Number 8, blue - this cup that survived the fire is mostly blue in the design and has glass all stuck to it that is mostly blue as well.
Number 9, red fruit or veggie - a red tomato, is it a fruit or veggie?

I do a cryptogram a day and other crossword puzzles.  I liked this that I solved yesterday:

It's so simple to be wise. Just think of something stupid to say and say the opposite. —Sam Levenson

Good advice on being comfy when you paint or draw or be artsy. I am a morning person, but I've gotten lazy about my morning time. I rarely ever paint at night - odd. I put on Pandora radio - mostly oldies.
That way I can sing along as I paint. Actually, there is certain music that evokes emotion from me that helps me paint - more odd.

Bag Blog, Thanks. I think when music moves you in painting that is good. I liked Bolivia so much that sometimes when painting I just put on the music from there along with other altiplano and latino music. It is interesting to know what people use. I think Maggie Stiefvater uses pretty raunchy rock music.

When I am really into painting I don't even hear the music, but I think it helps you be loose and move around which is good. Another reason to paint standing up.

Hard to sketch standing for me unless I'm at my high drawing table. Standing and holding the sketchbook is too difficult. I try it sometimes when the Scavenger Hunts call for outdoor things. Awkward!!!

Hi, Joanna, thank you very much!

Polly, nice to see you again! Sketches have been like my homework as you will find I have written in my blogging. I am beginning to like it more .. finally! Almost fun, sometimes. Ha.

tomatoes are fruit because of the seeds :) at least that what a farmer told me once when i asked him *shrugs*

more great sketches :)

I am a night owl when I don't have uni the next day, and work better at night or evening but due to school have to create during the day. I usually have the radio on, tuned to a canadian station usually :p

Hi, Jennifer Rose.

I guess tomatoes are really a fruit but they don't fit the mold for me. :)

Thanks. Do you listen to the radio on the internet or do you have a Canadian station there? Interesting.

listen on the internet, we have fiber broadband so no lag when listening online :) generally listen to this station :)

Jennifer, glad you have a good choice to listen to. I tried to check it out (for old times sake when we listened in Canada) but it says, not available in your area. Imagine!
