ArtRage Sketches and More

I sketched out on the porch this morning.  I tried a new app on my iPad.  It is called ArtRage. I’ve had it for a while,  but this is my first Scavenger Hunt sketch on it.  It has different tools, like airbrush and watercolor brush.  Easy to use, just a bit different than Brushes.  My style doesn’t change much of course, no matter the tool.

For Scavenger Hunt 323

Number 1, an ancient artifact (at least 100 years old) - some old irons that belonged to my grandmother and Gene’s grandmother.
Number 2, roof - Gene’s storage shed

I played with ArtRage sometime  back with the part where you can use metallic paint.  I did this desert scene that I did from imagination.  Interesting.

I have not taken a photo of the finish of my pastel painting.  I will do that and get up the WIP post soon.  I like to take the photo in direct sunlight and we had clouds yesterday and again this morning.

You may have heard about fires in the area.  We are not very close.  There were several fires yesterday that the emergency crews had to respond to.  Very hot and dry still.  Be careful everyone.

You can keep up on the Austin American Statesman/ Bastrop Advertiser

For you pastelists, here is an article by Richard McKinley that gives some tips for flying with your pastels.  I recommend reading his blog for info on pastels, techniques, theory and more.  Most of the advice applies to painting in general, especially pastels and oils.

The metallic look is pretty funky!

Bag Blog, I'm just a funky painter! Thanks.

To me the metallic effect looks like colored tissue paper that's been pasted onto a white sheet of paper. :-) Kinda cool.

Joanna, your comment prompted me to print that and see what it looks like printed. I'll let you know. Thanks.

Hi, Gene! On wetcanvas I put shop. Sorry I misnamed it here. LOL It is quite a nice shop, too.

Hi Jo - I'm finally back to blogging (occasionally) and was eager to visit and catch up with you! Wonderful that you are working in pastel again and what a neat and tidy studio! I have ArtRage but have played with it only a couple of times. Your metallic paint piece is intriguing. The past stories of your cowboy dad were fascinating and I love this photo! So happy your sister is sharing with you.

I had to do the comment moderation - was being spammed big time - and I agree re your thoughts on Facebook - it seems to have replaced blogging for many.

Wanted to mention we enjoy the TV show FAST AND LOUD which is set in Bastrop - we assume it's staged for the most part but still a cute show. There is one called WHAT'S IN THE BARN that's set a few miles from our Maggie Valley, NC home at the Wheels Through Time motorcycle museum. Hey - better than watching HONEY BOO BOO!!

What a great example you set for us sketching every day! You are such an inspiration and I've bookmarked some of the links you've mentioned. Thanks!

Rosemary, thanks for the thoughtful comments. I am happy that you are still keeping up with your blog. I do check occasionally but haven't been commenting so much. I think it is all tied into my funk thing.

I never heard of Fast and Loud, will check that out. We pretty much stick to mysteries and such. Probably even worse than Honey Boo Boo. Ha.

Thanks so much for checking in. I'm hoping to get back into my painting big time and share what I learn. I am working on it.

I forgot to comment on the title of this post. When I saw "ArtRage" I thought you were going to be "raging" about something and was amazed. You? Raging???? But, no. :-)

Joanna, got 'cha! Thanks. Oh, and I can occasionally rant a bit.
