Paint Together with Regina -- Played in the Dust (Pastel)

What a nice day.  I went to Regina Burchett's studio and we painted together.  That is always good for my painting.  We enjoy being together to paint and visit.  I met Regina several (or more) years ago here in Bastrop.  She lives about fifty miles away now, but we try to paint together as often as we can.  It has been a long time, so today was very special.

I stopped on the way and got us a latte to get us going.  A bit of tradition.  I rarely buy lattes.  Gene says,  "Latte is French for you paid too much for your coffee!" Gene bought me a machine to make them here at home.

Regina worked on a sky painting.  She has a couple of shows coming up that she is working towards. (Listed on her page.)  I'm working for some new work for my show in New Mexico in July (info on the sidebar to the right) so we did not paint from life like we did on the sunflowers mentioned in the previous post.

This is the start of my painting.

I did an under-painting with alcohol on some deep rust colored Colourfix paper.  Regina did the same, she was working on Pastelbord.  (Her studio is gorgeous, by the way.)

Regina hard at work.

I stopped at one point to take a photo of my painting and this doe was watching me from across the yard, obviously in the next yard.  Pretty tame deer around there.  The ones at our house scatter when we come outside.  We saw her or another doe jump over the fence with no hesitation or problem as I was leaving.

I was trying to get Charlie, our four legged assistant, to look at me so I could take his photo.  He kept watching Regina for a treat.  Then he decided to be an art critic.  He didn't like my painting!

Ah well.  Maybe he will like it better as I make progress on it.

Check back for the finish on the painting, it will be chile pickers in New Mexico, near Hatch.

Joanna, Charlie, art critic, is very cute and well behaved. Regina and Larry rescued him and he tries so hard to be good! Gets embarrassed when he gets caught at anything. Loves chasing the squirrels. He ran up to that doe when she was lying down and she just looked at him. He was obviously mistreated and lived on his own a long time, but is in doggy heaven at their house! And, really appreciates it.

Great that you have a good friend to paint with. This looks super!!! But the sunflowers below have my mouth hanging open. Wow!!

Joan, it is fun to paint together. You and Michelle always do such great things! Thanks, I had fun with the sunflowers.

Jo - It was fun, I feel like I got a good start on my sky painting, and Charlie had a good time.... that's all that matters, right? And he didn't bark at your painting like he did on that portrait one that was here a while back. Excellent start on your pepper-picking painting!

Hi Regina. Thanks for the note. Charlie is very special. I really loved the purple, green and turquoise in your sky. It pops!

I love lattes - Gene cracks me up! It sounds like you had a good time painting with Regina.
