First Friday is becoming a monthly tradition in beautiful downtown historic Bastrop, Texas. Friday, October 1, Judy Hawes will be at Jo Castillo Art Studio and Gallery at 1009 Main Street, Suite 3. Judy has new paintings and jewelry and you can see some of my work in real life. It always looks so much better in person. Judy will be open that afternoon and from 6 - 8 p.m. for the First Friday celebration.
My studio gallery has more than paintings. There is Judy's original jewelry, Regina Burchett's prints, cards and paintings. Prints and CD's from Byrd and Street. Other gift items are on the shelves. Stop by and visit with Judy while I am gone.
It is a big night with the other studios open. C.M. "Mike" Henderson will be showing his new work at the Bastrop Fine Arts Guild Gallery. (In the same building as my studio/gallery) Mike is an oil and watercolor artist. Mike's theme is the Skys of Texas.
The galleries across the street are open as well. Lea and Mark Cundy have the Blue Donkey Studio open with wildflower pottery and jewelry. Cuauhtemoc "Temo" Perez has a new studio there. A sample of Temo's work is on AmericanFrame.com, here in their on line gallery. Stephanie Strange exhibits there with the Artmakers Collective.
After visiting the galleries where you see the work of well over 30 artists, you can dine downtown and listen to live music. Have fun and I will be back for the first Friday in November. Yes!
I am an artist that paints in pastels, with some oils, and acrylics. I sketch in pen and ink. As an artist my original paintings are influenced from living in Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, Colorado, Bolivia, Peru and Chile, and travels throughout much of Canada and all our fifty States. This is my spot for posting paintings and sketches, to muse mostly about art, life and a little about UT Baseball.

- I Grew up in a small town , Magdalena, New Mexico. I enjoy art and the pleasure other people get from my work. I always donate some of my sales and art to charities, especially for children. That started in Bolivia with Para los Niños. "I cannot pretend to feel impartial about colors. I rejoice with the brilliant ones and am genuinely sorry for the poor browns." -- Winston Churchill
