Baseball Photos Regionals in Austin

Wow, what a day. We went to the first game a little late. It was so hot today. Muggy, too. Rice was playing LA Lafayette, the Ragin' Cajuns. The Cajuns pitcher, Zach Osborne, pitched a shutout against Rice. Rice has been a high scoring and hitting team and everyone was surprised. Lafayette won 1-0. Whew. Lafayette had a noisy and supportive crowd. Much louder than the Rice bunch. That was a surprise, too.

Final Score, LA Lafayette 1, Rice 0

LA Lafayette, pretty happy.

Texas won their game, 11-0, against Rider. Brandon Workman pitched the shut out, too. I wonder if that is a record of some sort to have back to back shutouts. Hmmm. We were so happy after the Big 12 Tournament disappointments. That was all forgotten tonight!

Introductions of Rider players and the Longhorns.

The crowd. Around 7,000 folks. Rider had appeared before a crowd of 500 or so, never a big bunch. They are here from New Jersey and had only a few supporters in the crowd. A few parents perhaps? I'm sure there were some LA Lafayette and Rice fans rooting for them. The starting Rider pitcher got a big hand from the Texas crowd when he was relieved.

I don't imagine they count the folks outside under the tents and on the buses. :)

Brandon Workman throwing. Not a great photo, but I love the shadow.

Cohl Walla getting a hit.

Cohl Walla arriving on first base.

Russell Moldenhouer hit a home run over the bus or just between the bus and the lift to the left of the 375 sign. It landed just in front of the white car. That is across the street past the bus. Wow!

The end of the game. Rider now has to face the Rice Owls. Ouch. Texas will play the Ragin' Cajuns tomorrow.

Final Score, Rider 0, Texas 11. Look at the temperature in the upper left. 87 still about 9:00 p.m. Hot!
Hook 'em Horns!

Gene's alma mater, New Mexico got a win over Stanford today, too. Go Lobos! Ah, Louisville won, too! Our grandchildren go there!
