Last Sketches, Scavenger Hunt 50

I was sketching in this small, 5 x 7 inch, sketchbook and thinking that it is harder to sketch when your arm is not resting on a table. Not as easy to get the straight lines and compare lines for perspective. I easily change the angle of the sketchpad and my drawing hand. Most of the items in the new Hunt 51 are inside the house items, so I will have to check out my theory.

I can't believe that it is the last day for Scavenger Hunt 50. I did get two more done last night for 5 out of 26. That is not much progress for the 9 days.

#4, Something that folds (challenge to sketch it folded and unfolded), the wooden deck chairs. This is the sketch I mentioned last post that I ran out of page because of poor planning. It is in the NY Sketchbook with the Micron 005 pen, about 15 - 20 minutes.

#5, Something that starts with "G", grass, both ornamental and regular in the back yard. The ornamental grass is about 7 feet tall! So you see the regular grass is pretty tall as well.

A note: I did try painting the roses in acrylics again. I was not pleased with the results. Joanna suggested I try them in pastels. Ha. I'm not sure if the acrylics dry too fast or it is my method of using them. I was using them, or trying to, like oil paints. Some of the artists use them like watercolor and put many layers down to get blended effects. Oh well, that is the way you learn, just keep at it. I have a retarder and did not think of getting it out. Next time I will.

Jo,

First, I've been meaning to leave you a comment for some days (or weeks) now. I really think that your sketching is improving with all these hunts you do! It is very encouraging, reminds me to keep plugging away. And thanks for mentioning that acrylics are a bit of learning curve for you - makes me feel better - because they never come out how I expect. I have thought about the layering that other people do, but I'm not sure I've got the patience for that - I might as well stick with the CPs if I'm going to do that. :-) Anyway, just a hello to say that I enjoy the blog and watching your progress...Rose

I agree with Rose. Your sketching is phenomenal! The chairs are so cool.
You have been working your pencils and pens to the stub!

Rose, I appreciate that you stopped by and for the kind words. I have a problem with any medium that takes patience. :) So I usually stick to pastels and pen and ink. I like oils but they give me a headache. The acrylics have been OK on some things, but the roses puzzle me. Always trying to learn something.

Leslie, Thank you. You deserve a hug for those nice words. :) Maybe when I grow up I can draw like you!

I keep telling myself I really NEED to do those scavenger hunts every time I see your posts. The kids start school on Monday. Maybe once I get them going I will find more time.

Anna, the Hunts do take time, especially if you post comments. That is definitely not a requirement, but adds to the fun to keep me interested.

I love your sketches. Something about drawings and sketches is more immediate and energetic then paintings, wouldn't you say? Great work.

J Matt, thank you so much. Yes, sketching sure catches the moment. Plein air is a little like that as well. :)
