I started this yesterday as I mentioned in the previous post. I grouped 5 items and started in. I was way off on the celery so took a break and walked away. I remembered late in the evening to put the celery back in the fridge. It did survive to finish the sketch today.

Numbers 3-7: pan, cup, vegetable, spatula and spoon. Pastels on wiped off sanded paper about 9 x 12 inches.
When I looked at my sketch in the photo I realized the composition could be better. I have all the items centered on the paper. The spoon and spatula are too short, but they would have gone off the paper. I was happier with the celery, though.
I'm not cropping it in real life or working on it anymore, it is just a sketch. I can crop the photo and maybe you will see a better composition.
When painting try to get a good composition, drawing or placement before you get into the actual application of paint or pastels. You will have a more successful painting with half the work. I don't do a complete drawing with pastels, I draw as I go, but I try to get the objects in place first. In a landscape I try to get in the large shapes and light first. You may get a step by step next time if I remember to take the photos. I could do a time lapse video as well. Hmmm.
