Inktober Days 25 - 26 and Hunting

Posting these for the record, not too exciting.  The point of Inktober is to sketch in ink every day of the month, so that is what I have been doing.

Day 25, dangerous - a box cutter which to me looks dangerous even when closed.  This stays in Gene's desk drawer.

Day 26, remove - from a photo online, removing or trimming the beard.

Both sketches in the BookFactory sketchbook with Micron 01,02 and 03.  Those pens have finer to thicker nibs on the pens.

Yesterday we went to pick up a prescription for Gene.  We had been talking about candy corn after seeing it on a Hallmark movie.  So for a surprise for Gene, I picked up a bag of candy corn for him.  It was called Harvest, I think, and had some chocolate tipped (can't really taste it) and some little pumpkins.  Perfect for the Hunt.  We don't have any pumpkins.  If we put a real pumpkin outside it would cook in the sun.  Most folks put out plastic or metal Halloween decorations.  A neighbor has a small cemetery in his yard.  Another has lights with skulls and pumpkins but to small to sketch from the mobile studio.

This is in the large Canson mix media sketchbook on the page with the old pickup and Texas stars.  I used both Piochoo and Wexford pens.  They don't blend very well, acting somewhat like markers.

I don't care much for candy corn as it is mostly just colored sugar, right?  But I did give in and eat my models.  Not bad, but as I said, it all tastes the same regardless of color.  Old fashioned and brings back memories of our school days and Halloween.  You can read this here:

This is one of my favorite sketches.  Done in 2019, watercolor, about 9 x 12 inches.

I also like the 2019 pumpkin sketch. Was Dad happy with his surprise? :-)

Box cutters always make me nervous. Lol

For Halloween at home we get very few trick or treaters. I always hesitate to buy candy because there will be leftovers. I don’t know what they do here in Venice. I have seen a few pumpkins as decorations in front of restaurants. We leave here early in the morning on Halloween so I guess we won’ t find out.

Joan, thanks, Gene was using that cutter this morning and I was nervous! We never get trick or treaters here. I always buy some candy that we like, just in case. Then we can have the leftovers. They have a thing on Main Street for costumes and candy from the businesses, plus not many little kids in this area. We never really decorate or go out either. I can only remember one time dressing up as adults in Lubbock, Texas, of all places for a party.
We have enjoyed traveling with you via your sketches. Safe travels home.

These are great sketches Jo. I had intended to join in with Inktober this year but, yet again, it has passed me by.

Thanks, R's Rue. Hope it's a good day for you!

John, thanks. It isn't too much of a challenge as I sketch almost every day anyway, just not always in ink.
