Wow, sketched on Thursday and now it is Sunday. Where does the time go? Here are the Thursday sketches.
Number 3 Landmark - the Old Bastrop Opera House. It has been around a long time and is still used for plays and other things. They keep the building in pretty good shape. We went to a play last fall. They have dinner theater sometimes.
These are in the small travel sketchbook with the Acurit 03 pen. I added the watercolor at home from memory. The sketches were quick an not very accurate. Does the watercolor make them look more or less like sketches by my great grand children?
When I looked up the Opera House the colors are a bit different, but you get the idea.

Number 4 Hot Air Balloon - We should have been in Albuquerque for this item. I substituted some balloons tied on a utility box by the Tribe building. I guess it is a new artists coop the signs say, "Join the Tribe". We were too far away to see the clothes, maybe they are vintage?? The building is very colorful on this side and white on the other side. I couldn't remember what color the awning was so made it purple. I didn't think to take photos. Normal for me.

Earlier this morning I heard a cacophony of birds out my studio side of the house. I went out on the porch and there were Bluejays, Cardinals, Mockingbirds and maybe more after something. All sorts of fluttering in the trees. I could finally see some birds here and there. I was looking for a cat or something that must have been after them or their eggs. They were close to the ground, too, and then I saw a snake about 3 feet long moving very quickly trying to get away. I went quickly to the street side of the house by the garage to see if I could get a photo and identify the snake. By then it was gone. Hopefully across the street and away from here.
I tried to get a video of the birds and noise but when I went to download it all I had done was take a photo when I thought I was starting the video and one when I thought I was stopping the video. No birds or snake in either! Dang!!

Back to Thursday, we went to dinner at the 602 Brew Pub on Main. They have artists paint so diners can see live painting. Jana Lynch, the artist in charge, had small items for others to paint for a small fee to pay for the supplies. There was a pretty good bunch of diners and 4 or 5 artists. You get a free beer and 15% off your dinner if you paint. Maybe I will try next Thursday. You can stay for karaoke later. Good food (Great crawfish chowder and steaks. I like the shrimp and grits.) and local beer. We drink wine. I like the beer but am gluten free again so no beer.
We have known Raymond, owner, for years. I had a couple of shows one at the old restaurant, Daddy's Grill and later at the pub with other artists on the First Friday art shows. You might like to go eat and paint and then sing a little!

You may remember that the Texas Longhorns did not make it to the College World Series. Today is game 2 of the final best of 3 games. LSU Tigers are playing the Florida Gators. LSU won last night 4 -3. If they win tonight they are National Champions. If they lose, game 3 is tomorrow. We are rootin' for LSU! Geaux Tigers!!

I like the sketches and always enjoy when you add watercolor. :-)
I’m so sorry you didn’t get any video of the birds. Dang!

I like the colorful look of these sketches!
The idea of artists painting at the restaurant is a fun idea...and a discount on dinner too. The food sounds great...I'd go for the crawfish chowder and the shrimp and grits in a flash!
Joanna, thank you. The birds were so loud, I couldn't imagine what was going on. Took a while for me to go out and then to see the snake. Yikes.
Joan, thank you so much. The food is good at the pub and lots of room for painters. Hope I remember and we are free to go this week.
Simple yet beautiful sketches!
Great sketches Jo. That's a great idea to have live painters doing their thing in the restaurant. I don't normally sketch or paint in public but a free beer might win me over. LOL.
John, thanks. You may remember the pub dog painting I did a while back was in the the 602 Brew Pub. The owner and dog were there this night and the owner was sketching, he said he was just sketching to get a beer. Ha. Guess we will see them again this Thursday if we make it downtown.
Jo both sketches are great...especially like the Opera House. Looks like a great historic building to visit. Hope that snake didn't steal any bird eggs. I am like you not a fan of any snakes. Have a great day. Hugs!
Debbie, thank you. The Opera House has been an interesting place. We have been to quite a few of the plays and they had art shows for our group. It is a real community effort. Yes, snakes are creepy. We haven't seen many and have some great grandkids visiting for the 4th of July and I was hoping to see if it was just a garden snake or a rattler or some such. Didn't get close enough. Hope you are having a good week.
