I went out on the porch to sketch a landscape for the Scavenger Hunt. Pastels seemed a good idea for a "landscape". I wiped off the bear and cups from a while back. It wasn't a bright sunny day but was perfect for being out. Gene even sat with me while I painted.
Eastside, Pastel 12 x 12 inches on Pastelbord with a variety of pastels.

Number 1, landscape
Here is the setup. Painting from life is so much better than painting from a photo.
I had the option to leave out the driveway and street and put in the bluebonnets in my small patch on the right. Painters license is what artists use to show our world the way we see it.
Oh, our friend, Jesse Baggett, daughter of Lou (bag blog) that comments here, won the Art Battle 2023 National Championship!! She is an amazing artist and usually paints animals she knows of the area. Such fun images and so full of imagination. The artists have 20 minutes to paint and then we vote for the favorite. You can watch the competition here on YouTube. Too late to vote but you may be able to purchase a painting! She has a website with a link to her Instagram account.
You can watch the competition here on YouTube. There were three 20 minute rounds with time for the original viewers to vote. It is about 3.5 hours long but she is in the first and last round. She had to win the first round to start with. Too late to vote but you may be able to purchase a painting or sculpture or mural direct from Jesse!
Congratulations Jesse! She will now be in the International Competition next year.

So glad you included some bluebonnets!!
I will have to go watch the beginning and ending of the competition!
Joan, thank you. The bluebonnets were beautiful this year. I only had a few but hopefully next year will be more. Jesse is an amazing artist and person. The mural they did is so unusual and beautiful. You can see it on her website.
R's Rue, I've been lazy in posting. Thank you so much.
