Best Laid Plans Sketches

Monday blues, right?  I wanted to sketch or paint for Enid's pastel class.  I lost track of my mind.  We were supposed to show intensive color and and how it moves the eye around the painting.  I thought I might as well sketch with pastels and have it double for the Scavenger Hunt.  So far so good as planning goes.  The list had plant, egg and glass.  I have a couple of small red glasses so my plan was to put the egg in the little red glass.  Turned out the glass was too big, the egg just fit down in the glass.

No problem I thought.  I wiped off the piece of Pastelbord (12 x 12 inches) I've been using and brushed it down with water. While that dried, I gathered the items including the "new" addition of the shot glass.  As I was taking the photo, I realized that I didn't put in the red for the class.  It would have been more interesting if I had put in some of the intensive green around the painting.  Maybe a leaf on the table to point to the egg.  Ah, well, best laid plans.

Number 1 plant, Number 2 egg, and Number 3 glass

Today, Tuesday, Gene went on a trike ride and it was so nice out, I decided to do a puzzle and have lunch on the porch.  I thought of the list for the Hunts and there was a window.  Hmm, I was looking at the bay window of the dining room through the screen.  I got the Art Street Sketchbook and a Micron 02 pen.

Number 4, window - This turned out to be another plan gone awry.  The bay window and the porch make a triangle type corner.  With the under eaves and the brick and the wood and screen it was a very complicated window to pick.  If I had thought, I would have picked an easier window.  More bricks to the left on the inside wall of the porch .. I just cropped that out in my mind.

The Longhorn baseball team played LSU Tigers this evening in Austin.  We watched on TV.    LSU is sitting number one as the season starts.  It was a good game.  All tied up zero to zero until the ninth inning.  A pitching duel between the starters and then both bull pens did well.  Two LSU batters reached on walks in the ninth and then a home run.  Dang, Texas couldn't answer and the Tigers won 3-0.  The Horns go to California and play Cal-State Fullerton this weekend.  Hook 'em Horns!

Nice pastel of the plant, cup and egg. You really picked a challenging view through the window to sketch. I know I sometimes start sketching and think to myself that I definitely could have picked an easier view where the perspective wasn't such a challenge. lol

Thanks, Joan. You know I usually go for easy. Almost anything is easier in pastel. Easier to change and correct. On the other hand, a challenge is good for the brain once in a while. Ha.

I thought you were going to say that you had broken the egg - the expensive egg! Ha! The sketch was still nice. Windows and perspective can be very complicated. You did well.

bag blog, you are right. Eggs are expensive. In the past I've always had some hard boiled eggs around. Gene likes them for a snack. But this one was breakable. About time to wipe off the board and go again!
