The Water Media Challenge on creativespark.art had a photo of a house with a blue door. I sketched the Belted Galloway cows from this same challenge. The photos are by EricRak in Portugal. Blue doors are a big thing in New Mexico where I'm from so that photo caught my eye. The photo was of the whole house, yard and out buildings. I focused on the door and windows.
I really need to work on my skills in watercolor. I did intend it to be just a sketch. This is in the Canson Watercolor sketchbook, 9 x 12 inches. The sketch is in the middle of the page taking up about half the page. I drew light pencil sketch, then added the watercolor with the waterbrushes. To me using watercolor like that is more like coloring than painting.

I like the sketch. Sometimes it is like coloring, I have to work at not having it seem like coloring. I'll have to check out that challenge. Not ready to do another right now but always fun to check them out.
Jo this is a lovely sketch. I adore blue doors. We don't often see blue doors in my part of the state. What a shame because they are so pretty. Watercolors are certainly different from pastels...both mediums have their challenges. Well have a great day friend...glad you enjoyed Gordon Lightfoot. Hugs!
Debbie, thank you. The blue doors and adobe are so beautiful in New Mexico. And I've never had one. It's about time I think. My watercolor needs practice and ..... Gordon Lightfoot was so good, very popular at one time. Made me smile.
I would be attracted by the blue door too. That is what I remember about Santa Fe and Taos...the wonderful blue doors and window trims. This came out really nice.
Joan, the blue doors and gates always feel so welcoming. Thanks so much.
I love the softness and the strength in this piece.
Laurie, thanks. I use watercolor for sketching mostly. Nice to see you.
Helen, thank you so much. I missed your comment somehow. I do appreciate you stopping by.
