Still no painting. I will go and pick up the two paintings I have at the Lost Pines Art Center. I don't have any new ones to put in. I think I am winding down and retiring from the business side of art. It takes networking in person and on line. I am just going to enjoy what I do and not worry about the selling and exhibiting.
We had an interesting couple of weeks with Gene's eye surgery. I went to wash dishes and the dishwasher made a sound like a fan was hitting something. Sort of like when we used to put a piece of cardboard on our bicycle wheel with a clothes pin so it would sound like a motor. Did you do that?
Anyway, I called an appliance repair guy I found on nextdoor. He came the same afternoon and checked it out and said it probably needed a new motor. He had one and would repair it the next day. We thought about it and decided to just get it fixed even though it was almost $400. I like the dishwasher and it has a deep shelf for glasses so you can wash wine glasses and large bowls and such. The new ones in stock didn't seem to have any extra features and were about $800. So Adan came the next morning and took the pump out and it had a plastic toothpick in it so we didn't need a new motor. He checked it all out, put it back together and no need for the motor. That was nice. He could have put in the motor and charged us more but we had only to pay for the service calls. Under $150 for all. I recommend Adan Borja, AB Appliance if you need repair in the Bastrop area. Prompt and courteous.
We also got out Starlink and had it installed. We, with our old kiddos, were going to put it in, but we decided to have it done and not spend our visit working in the yard on a hot day. Anthony Wright of Protelum ATX came and put it in. He came back and took down our old sattellite dish too for no extra charge. He was very efficient and did a great job. He lives a bit farther but works the Bastrop to San Marcos area.
Then we had to have the plumber come. The sprayer on the kitchen sink has been leaking. We couldn't find the part anywhere so decided to have a new faucet put in. Parobek Plumbing did the work, Dewy Lloyd was the expert that did the work. He changed out the faucet, put in a hammer control, fixed a leak in the bathroom sink, put a new inlet valve and hose on the hot water heater. Great job there, too.
These are all things that Gene could do before. So he gets a little frustrated that we have aged and have to have help with all these things. Gene is recovering from the cataract surgery on the second eye. The doctor put a stent in that eye as well, so he may not have to use any eyedrops for his glaucoma. We will have a check up in a couple of weeks. Gene hasn't been able to ride his trike much and is somewhat stir crazy with restrictions on lifting, driving, etc.
The Longhorn Baseball team is doing well in the postseason. They are in Arlington, Texas, for the Big 12 Tournament and have won the first two games. They play again on Saturday morning. We didn't go to as many games this year. We used to not miss any and traveled all over to games. It was a good time. Now it is more TV than in real life. Hook 'em Horns!

It is amazing that when one thing needs to be fixed, several things need to be fixed. Toby still does our fixin', but because he works so much, he is slow to get things done. Sometimes I try to fix things - ha! It makes Toby be quicker. I can see Gene being restless with all the restrictions, but tell him to milk it for all it's worth!
why get a new one when the old one is fixable? not much point, John usually tries to fix the stuff here before we give upon it and buy new
I like the sketch of the fishing shack...much nicer impression than a storage shed. Glad you had an honest appliance guy. Yes, I remember we used playing cards on the spokes of the bikes making that odd sound. We did a lot of strange things as kids.
With Jerry's prosthetic leg and his eye problems and my hip and knee we seem to not get things repaired/replaced too quickly. The maintenance staff here is OK but I hate bothering them with things like replacing bulbs. I can still change the bulbs in the bathroom vanity, but we have bulbs in the ceiling fan over our table. I'm short and can't reach the bulbs from one step up on the ladder...and if I stand on the second step there is nothing to hold on to. We've got 3 small things for them to come in and take care of so I guess I need to call them.
I seem to be less enthusiastic about putting artwork into shows...you have to drop it off, feel obligated to go to the reception, and then pick it up again. lol It is a lot of work!
Jennifer Rose, yep, thanks. Most of the younger generation don't even know you can fix things like putting new heels on your shoes.
Joan, boy it is so true. The older we get the slower we get.
And I found two paintings that hadn't been at the gallery so took them down and now have two paintings at the Art Center. Ha.
bag blog, your comment made Gene chuckle. He said, "yah, right!" It is good to be able to do things. As we get older we lose the interaction with any one out in the working world.
