It seems that the porch calls for sketching. Maybe that should be the name of my blog or should I start a podcast?
I did sketch out on the porch this morning while having my coffee and snack. I used the iPad, pencil, fingers and the app, ArtRage. Using different apps makes me think and try to remember how to use them.

Number 1, above my head - our new ceiling fan.Bag Blog, Lou, http://bagwag.blogspot.com/ was talking about Strathmore watercolor paper and some of the problems she had with it. She is/was painting a watercolor a day for a month. I said I had never used Strathmore watercolor paper. I did not like Strathmore pastel paper. It has a grid and is slippery like it has plastic or something. Watercolor paper probably holds more pastel than the Strathmore does.
While writing my comment I looked down and was surprised to see that I have a pad of Strathmore Waterolor Postcards on my desk .. unused. I had been using Cotman Water Colour postcards and brought out my spare pad and it was Strathmore. So before retiring for the night I got out my mini kit of watercolors and played in the water. The paper did not take scratching well at all. Scratching can make thin stems or the lines on leaves. This paper tears. I guess the paper is OK if you don't need any special effects.
Rae Andrews, I know from the Austin Pastel Society, is an amazing artist in several media. She wrote a new watercolor book, Dancing Brushes - a Fresh Approach to Watercolors. I couldn't resist and ordered it. Just maybe I can learn a bit for my watercolor practice. It won't be here for a few days. I will let you know how it goes. She is a generous and talented art teacher so I am looking forward to the book.

Your ceiling fan looks good on the toned paper. It is strange that there are such huge differences in watercolor papers. You got a nice vibrant look to your flowers. I know I have tried Strathmore wc paper, but I think it has been mostly in sketchbooks or postcards. My go to paper for anything larger is Arches or Fabriano Artistico.
Joan, I was surprised to see I had Strathmore paper at all. Looking forward to Rae’s book.
That is a great little watercolor. I don't scratch much and then I'm leery. Once you scratch, you can't take it back. It is great for certain things, though, like grass. You did well with your colors and letting it be loose and free. You go girl!!
Bag Blog, guess I don't mean scratch as much as indent. I see your point about not being able to undo that. :-) Thank you for your support.
the fan looks great 😀
you dont tend to see ceiling fans here or air conditioning either and most places do not have screens on the windows. threw me for a lop when i first came here lol
Jennifer Rose, thank you so much. I can't imagine no screens. I can see no a/c. We can't be out in the evening so have a screened in porch for mosquitoes.
The fan looks great and what I love is your ability to find ordinary items we all take for granted and make them extra ordinary. Lovely, also like your geraniums. I prefer Saunders watercolor paper. There are so many out there, but Saunders is pretty good. Take care. You have inspired me to look around my house and paint something.
Jdicignano, thanks so much. Most of the ordinary ideas come from the Scavenger Hunts. We have sketched under the sink, trash, leftovers, etc. the Hunts are my homework. I feel guilty if I don’t sketch.
