An item on the Scavenger Hunt list was "outside". We went for our morning walk around the lake/pond. We sat on one of the benches for about 25-30 minutes. It was so nice. There was a breeze and an egret was grazing for its breakfast. It seemed to catch a few things. The water is low so the bird was way out in the water.
I sketched in the travel sketchbook with the Micron 02. The firehouse is across the way. The caretaker of the area has been piling the brush and limbs in a big pile. They burn it and use it for practice I guess. There is a burn ban in place right now, so no fires outside.
The egret was very still quite a bit of the time while he was looking to grab something. It was a good stalker.

Egrets are interesting birds. Several years ago they had taken over an area on Lake Waurika causing lots of problems - people were getting sick. Because they are an endangered species, the people living in that area could do nothing. A friend of mine was hired by the federal government to scare the birds away. He sat out at the lake and shot off a special gun to keep the birds away. Eventually he kept them away from nesting enough that they moved on. I'm not sure why they are endangered.
Bag Blog, interesting. We usually see only 1 or two. They hang out with cows I think, but not many cows around here. Seems like there are plenty of them. Someone here did the shooting for the buzzards, seemed to work. We saw a big flock ? today but they were very high up. Not landing near here.
Love the egret sketches.
Joanna, thank you so much. You will miss watching the buzzards. We only see one or two once in a while.
