A Little Correction Pastel Sketch

Yesterday I posted the pastel sketch of the cup, wine glass and bird.  A correction on the plate was warranted so here you go.  Not a finished painting by any means but I can look at this and not feel a slight twinge.....

Click on images to see them larger.

Yesterday's

And today's

Still not perfect but could be a keeper.

The red glasses were given to me by one of Gene's sisters.  I have two this size and 2 smaller ones.  Thanks, Mercy.

The cup was a set of pottery.  I think it was a set of four.  Can't remember where I got them.  Hmmm.  (I see a matching mug in the photos below.)

The bird is from Chile, I think.  It lost its shine and pretty colors in the fire.  It has a nice flowing shape.  Again not sure if it was a gift or ??  Sometimes you would get a little gift when you bought something else, called yapa.  I always give yapa when I sell a painting.  Good luck, don't you think?  Maybe the bird was yapa.

These keepsakes from the fire are on the shelf/cupboard that David made me.   They have been good for sketching.  A few musical instruments, animals and shapes for the Scavenger Hunts .... and memories.

Ah I love your still life. The cranberry glass is very eye catching. I find sketching cups and saucers very challenging. You do it so well. Hope you have a great weekend.

Debbie, thank you so much. I like still life. I think you can learn so much about colors and shadows. If the sketch would develop to a painting I would still work more on the ellipses. :-)

R's Rue, thanks. Appreciate you stopping by.

ashok, thank you. I like painting with red.

Sometimes you just feel it in your gut that something needs to be changed...and you aren't happy until you do it. Looks better now. I like your collection of treasures on the shelf. Some things you just need to keep around. :)

Joan, thanks so much. You are always encouraging. I'm smiling.

The painting is a keeper. Doing round flat shapes in perspective is difficult - like trying to draw tires on a bike or car. Cups and saucers are difficult. I like the idea of yapa.

Thanks, Bag Blog. Yapa is/was fun and I enjoy doing it. I like still life painting like plein air, you see color in shadows, etc. I miss a lot in painting from photos. But, maybe that is because I don't do it often enough. I also think I don't move things and make a better composition, I follow the photo too closely. Thanks again.

I see from a later post that the cup and glass were not a keeper. Hmmm! I like the bird. :-)

Joanna, thank you so much. I debated over fixing the ellipses and background and then decided I had a photo. A new sketch on the paper is a better plan in this case.
