Always Apples Pastel Sketch

Apples are always what I choose when I don't know what to paint or have no umph to paint anything.  I call them my fallback item.  I like painting with red.  Apples are my favorite.  Tomatoes would be a close second but I have no good tomatoes to paint at the moment.  Oh, and geraniums are pretty special.

I had a piece of Pastelmat in size 8 x 6 inches.  Perfect for a quick pastel sketch.  I use any pastel, but this paper doesn't hold a lot of pastel so used some Sennelier to finish with.  They are very soft and creamy.

Number 2, yellow  I used association to find my item.  Yellow to banana to fruit to apple.  Actually I did reverse association because I knew I wanted to paint the apple.  Probably not kosher but suited my purpose.

Painting  your fallback subject is another good way to be inspired to paint.  Yesterday I tried using a new media.  Today a favorite item and a favorite medium.

Here are some of the old reds I like....  I have sketched apples and red many times more for the Scavenger Hunts.

Lots of lovely reds in these. I don't do apples very often. I stopped buying them because they kept going bad on me because I would put them in the fridge and forget about them. Maybe I need to keep them out on the counter.

Joan, thank you so much. We do the same with fruit. If you leave it out is turns quickly but in the fridge is forgotten. I like veggies more than fruit. Gene is the fruit eater ... when he remembers.

Jesse always says, "Paint it big. Pant it red! Everyone will like it."

Bag Blog, thanks for stopping in. Jesse paints big beautifully! I haven't painted anything big in ages. May take that on.....

Jennifer Rose, thanks, I do like to paint apples and other red things. I'm not as fond of eating apples. I like them peeled or cooked with a bit of cinnamon.
