Blue Monday .. or Not Sketches

For Scavenger Hunt 597, August 1 - 9

It is another beautiful day, not a Blue Monday at all.  It was cloudy/foggy but that passed and now it is mostly cloudy with some bright blue spots and sunshine in the mix.  Perfect for sketching in the garage.  I did sketch over the weekend, too, but didn't post anything.  Remember you can click on the images and make them larger.

Friday, we had gone to breakfast at the Bakery and waited a full hour for our meal.  We were at the table but still a long wait.  It is decent food, nothing exciting.  I had a Frito pie and Gene had chorizo and eggs with red chile and a tortilla.  Their chile is not the greatest otherwise the meal would have been so good.

I'm pretty sure I've told you when we first ate Frito Pie back when I was in high school it was made with a small package of Fritos open down the side.  Red New Mexico chile, cheese, hamburger,  and lettuce and tomatoes added in.  (Sometimes beans/frijoles and raw onions)Delicious.

The first time I ordered it in Texas in the 90s I got a little styrofoam bowl with some Fritos and some chile con carne out of a can and some of the melted nacho cheese, also out of a can on it.  That was it.  No fresh veggies or grated cheese.  I was super disappointed.

I had one at Tia's near Questa, NM, during our paint out that was very good.  It was on a plate but had good chile and all the good fresh ingredients.  Yummy.

Back to the Bakery.  We waited so long that I got out a coaster and sketched the folks across from us.  Not great .. about like the food, right?  I used a Micron 02 pen, it didn't fit in the Hunt.

Friday afternoon I sat on the porch steps with a green Zig Millennium in the travel sketchbook.  Number 7, feels prickly - some evil stickers that grow up to 3 feet or so tall.  The spines are thin and you don't notice them just the sticky leaves and then ... ouch.
Number 8, tire treads - the tread on the Expedition looks something like leaves.  Interesting.

Saturday, I sat in the rocker on the porch and sketched these in the travel sketchbook with a Zig Millennium 05.
Number 2, Door latch
Number 3, palm of hand and Number 4, fingernail
Number 5, protects from the sun - the corner of the porch (we are in a log cabin)
Number 6, feels heavy - a wooden bear about 2.5 feet tall carved with a chain saw.  There is another on the pillar that holds the porch up but sort of behind me.  Pretty cute ... and heavy.

Monday found me with my pastels out at the garage.  I used some Pastel Card about 9 x 12 inches.
Number 7, protection from sharp objects - my hiking boots protect from stickers like the ones I sketched above and maybe sharp snake, spider or scorpion bites, too.

Here is a photo of my boots, not quite the same angle.

We drove to Eagle Nest and then up behind the Vietnam Memorial, very nice drive.  Beautiful clouds. They are making a National Cemetary at the Memorial.  In the first photo the construction on the left is the Cemetary.  You can see Angel Fire and part of the ski runs also.

The second photo is back up the canyon where the sun was peeking out.  So pretty here in northern New Mexico.

Jennifer Rose, Thanks on the sketches. I like painting shoes. We would normally not wait an hour, but here it is the only option on Sundays. Sigh....

Joanna, well, almost pink, sorta mauve. Thanks, had fun painting them.

Joan, thanks. I know you have been so busy, don't know how you find time to do what you do.
