Back to Hunting

Wow, if I'm not careful, I will stay away from sketching too long and won't be painting or sketching.  It has been a while......

The Bastrop Sketchers met at the Bastrop County Courthouse downtown.  It was the large group of Pomona and I.  Maybe we will get more sketchers and painters if we make it the Bastrop Plein Air Group.  We shall see.

A latte from Maxine's got us started.  We spent about two and a half hours sketching and visiting.

I'm hosting Scavenger Hunt 540 and sometimes make an alphabetical list so I don't have to keep track of 26 things.  I decided to use the radio call letters.

a    Alfa - also alpha, something Greek, maybe Greek to me?
b    Beta - beta male
c    Charlie - fool or perfume
d    Delta - something to do with river/water

Number 1, J-Juliett - feminine -- I substituted another J word, jail.  It is not often I get to sketch a jail.  This is the historic Bastrop County Jail next to the Courthouse.  The Courthouse was built in 1883-84and altered in the 1920s.  The Jail was added in 1891.  The jail was used as a jail until 1974.  I think it is for county offices now and a historical building.

I finished most of the sketch on site and added some color.  I worked on it again this morning and sort of finished it.  I'm not that patient for sketching when it turns into a drawing and takes too long.  I almost didn't add anymore this morning.  I should have left it to be sketchy.

Anyhoo the photos from our day:

The jail and gazebo.  Sure glad I didn't add that in.

 Our parked vehicles.

View down Pine Street from our vantage point.  It was a good day for sketching, and a good time was had by all.

Gene and I went to Austin to see a new neurologist that specializes in movement with Parkinson's.  On the way back it appears that we had some alien visitors, maybe from Roswell, New Mexico.  It says Pheno Zeno, My Alien Roommates on the tire cover.  The van has a Texas licence plate.    Hmmmm.

Joan Tavolott from wetcanvas is visiting Australia and has an amazing bunch of sketches from down under.  She is such a prolific and good sketcher.  Have a look at her blog:

Jennifer, thanks. I thought about looking up the aliens then decided it wasn't too important. Our older son was born in Roswell, NM, so we always tease him about being an alien.

Joan, thanks for stopping in. You are super busy. I liked the sketch better before I finished it. Should have taken a photo. Sigh....
