Scavenger Hunt 520 Sketches and Rehab

Rehab, something we never think we will have to do, right?   The back of my knee has been bothering me for months.  I haven't been exercising much .. sort of thinking that would help.  It didn't, so I broke down, went to the doctor and he advised me to go to physical therapy for the pain and repair.

The first session was to check it out.  Next session was a real workout for the hamstring which the therapist thinks is the problem.  Wow, my calves were so sore!

The third session, Kyle, the therapist asked, "How's the knee?"

"I'm not sure," I said, "My sore calves hurt so much I forgot about the knee!  Is that your cure?"

Today is my fifth session, not looking forward to it.  Most of the exercises I can do on my own here at home .... just do it.

"What has this got to do with art," you say.  I was thinking that I have been in rehab for my painting for a couple of years (or more).  I have only painted when I have to or when I finally feel so guilty about all my art supplies sitting there.  I have tried all the therapy I can think of, like:

  • Taking a workshop
  • Traveling
  • Trying a new medium
  • Forgetting about art for a time
  • Visiting museums
  • Going in the studio and playing
  • Going in the studio every day
  • Painting with a group
  • Making deadlines (entering a show or something like that)
  • Teaching
  • Sharing
  • Etc......

I do sketch almost every day.  Many days I don't put much effort into it, just like my physical therapy.  But by doing this "homework", perhaps, just perhaps, the excitement, mojo, heart or whatever gets me going in painting will come back.

Maybe my art therapy is more like seeing a psychologist and I will never be cured.  What do you think?

Oh, I know ..... just do it!

So here is my rehab for today for Scavenger Hunt 520, sketched in the big book with a Prismacolor 01 and a Prismacolor chisel.

Number 2, something that pops when it breaks - florescent light bulb.

Off to physical therapy.........

You would think that teaching my little art classes would inspire me to paint, but most of what we paint is not something to be used in a show. Then class becomes my excuse to not paint - have to get ready for art class, painted in class, want to rest up after class, etc.

I do have a show coming up with the Chisholm Trail Arts Council. I need to do some framing. I will probably use more of my watercolors this time since I don't have that many new pastels.

There is lots of things I need to be doing, but I have lots of excuses. And it is the busy season with the holidays...

Bag Blog, we belong to the Procrastinators Club for sure! Maybe being super busy will help. Best of luck on your show!! Happy you are doing that! Hugs.

Hey Jo! Yes, PT hurts. When my doctor sent me there she actually prescribed pain meds. Hope that it helps.

I'm sorry painting isn't fun anymore. It's hard to do when it isn't enjoyable. Don't beat yourself up about the supplies - you've helped someone out by buying them.

I hope the fun returns, but I'll enjoy the sketches until then. :-) Hugs and love Jo.
