Downtown Bastrop Sketches

The Bastrop Sketchers met up and sketched in historic downtown Bastrop.  Bastrop has many old buildings and things to sketch.  We started in the museum.  Lucy sketched the firetruck.  It is fun and unique.  I was not into such an ambitious sketch so did some quick ones in ink.

For Scavenger Hunt 517 http://www.wetcanvas.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1436450 in the watercolor sketchbook with the Prismacolor 05 and the travel sketchbook with a Prismacolor 01.  I don't know why I sketched in the watercolor sketchbook and didn't get out the watercolors.  Maybe I will add some later  ...  ah, you know me, probably not.

1, unique building in neighborhood - home cookin' restaurant, Maxine's.  For this sketch I was inside the museum looking across the street.  The others are from outside in front of Maxine's sitting under the umbrellas.

2, mailbox - down the street in front of a bank
3, seeds and 4, iris - in an autumn arrangement in front of a store, plastic and dried, seeds

5, something that makes you feel happy, music - pianoforte in museum

6, skyscape - it was just gray today so added part of the skyline.  Used too fine line of pen.  Let's say it was foggy.

We also didn't make it to the cemetery.  It was very wet.  It rained early this morning and was still foggy until about 11:00 a.m.

Definitely put some color in and then you will be a real Urban Sketcher - right up there with the best of them.

Bag Blog, thanks so much! Out of sight out of mind in my world these days. Ha!

Nice sketches from town! I especially like the one of the restaurant across the street. Good job on the fancy piano! Sorry the weather wasn't good for the visit to the cemetery...don't worry it will be there for a while.

Thank you, Joan. It was a very good day, especially to get out with friends. Ha, I'm sure the cemetery isn't going anywhere as you say. I'm smiling.

Jennifer Rose, your idea of cemeteries and fog is good. I avoid cemeteries usually. As a kid I would go with my dad on Memorial Day to clean up the family plot. There were no caretakers in our small town and many of the graves had fallen in and the weeds and ants were abundant. Very spooky at 10 years old or so, and still that way. Ha!

i just find them peaceful, but im kind of odd lol
but can understand why a kid might find them creepy :)

Jennifer Rose, I can see your point, too. The Vietnam Memorial in Angel Fire is now going to be a National Cemetery. I find that place very peaceful. Maybe it is just the cemetery in my hometown. I haven't been to many others except for funerals, hmmmm.
