Happy Thanksgiving, Canadian Friends!

 Happy Thanksgiving!

This is a painting from years ago, pastel, 16 x 20 inches as I recall.  Seems to fit for Thanksgiving.

It slipped my mind that today is Thanksgiving in Canada.  I was reading blogs and saw Jeanette Jobson's post.  She is Canadian and a long time blogging buddy.  Check out her post and all her work and painting advice.  http://illustratedlife.blogspot.com/2016/10/thanksgiving.html

We have had so many special Canadian friends over the years.  Papi Jim and Papi Nino, our neighbors in Bolivia, and helpers with our kids.  Many more.  We visited some this past summer on our trip and I have many internet buddies.  So, a thankful day for me, too.  I love sharing this day.  Happy Thanksgiving!

A good Thanksgiving painting! I like the blanket under the veggies and the veggies are fun too. This summer I painted an acorn squash for my watercolor challenge. It was kind of boring. We used Jesse's compost pile in our little raised-bed garden. Surprisingly, acorn squash sprung up all over the garden choking most everything else out. At first, I thought it was funny, then it got old, and now I think I hate acorn squash.

Ha, Bag Blog. Squash is special. It is good cooked with green chile and corn. I don't remember what the white squash was in the painting, but it wasn't that bright. I don't have a good photo to find out. The painting is long gone.

I always forget its Thanksgiving until people in Canada start posting food photos lol

Jennifer Rose, in Bolivia we celebrated Canadian Thanksgiving with our Canadian priest friends with a typical meal in October then U.S. Thanksgiving in November with all the food both times. How great is that!!

that is a great thing :) was it traditional with a turkey?

We did have turkey and all the trimmings. Many of the items like cranberries and the turkeys we had to get at the US commissary. We used regular squash or carrots for the pumpkin pie. They had huge yellow squash that was mostly green on the outside. For Halloween we could have pretty darn big jack-o-lanterns! Big ones were between 2 and three feet tall. :) We raised our turkeys one year as they didn't bring any in. You could get them in Cochabamba which was a days drive from La Paz, so Gene got a couple of young ones and we fattened them up for Thanksgiving.
