Sketches for 461 and Photos

I managed a few sketches for Hunt 461
We were in Miles City, Montana, visiting my cousin as you may recall.

Number 5, free choice - Stuff on the TV stand and Number 6, extensions - behind the fridge.  Sort of scary so many things plugged in.

Number 7, 8 and 9 - power lines, vehicle and road out our motel window.

Number 10, sign - a neat sign make of cut out iron, but then painted to look like wood.  We did not make it to the museum.

A few photos from the road on the way to Gillette, Wyoming, for the night.  We ate at the Prime Rib Restaurant  http://www.primeribgillette.com/  It was excellent.  They had gluten free buns, so I got to have a hamburger.  They have prime rib of course and you can get it grilled, blackened and with different sauces.  Gene had a "senior" steak.  It was still more food than we needed.

An open pit mine, maybe coal as we saw train loads of coal.

The Little Powder River which is pretty dry in most places, maybe that is where the name came from.

A ranch on the plateau as we go up toward the Rocky Mountains.

We took off on a gravel road to see the Little Powder River and what might be there and saw the smoke of a fire as we came back.  So many fires again this summer.  This is about 25 miles north of Gillette.

On to Cheyenne.  We have plans to meet up with Ron Swearingen and family.  See how it goes.  He is an artist from our Western Forum http://ronsart-wyo.blogspot.com/ on wetcanvas.  We met with them before several years ago.  Fun!!

Then to Colorado to visit more of my cousins.  Gene is nice to visit with his out-laws as opposed to in-laws.

I've been doing World Watercolor Group on Facebook. Your sketches are great, but they would be really cool with a wash of watercolor. Apparently journaling with sketches and watercolor is really in. I bought a book called Urban Watercolor Sketching by Felix Scheinberger - a guide to drawing, painting and storytelling in color. Since I'm not very good at sketching/watercolor journals, I thought I'd read this book. Maybe it will inspire me and give me ideas for my students too.

Bag Blog, thanks. I add watercolor once in a while. I'm inspired mostly by Joan Tavalott, http://watercolorsbyjoan2.blogspot.com/
She is in our Scavenger Hunts and an Urban Sketchers and so much more. If you go to her blo.g you will find she does several journal blogs, even pretend journals. Lots of watercolor sketching and painting. Have fun with your journals.

You have really taken us on quite a tour of the country!!! Thanks for the nod to my blog!

We are heading off to Venice next week and I'm planning on painting and sketching my way around the city like I've done in the past. Hopefully I will be able to post to my blog (if we have wi-fi or I can find it someplace). It took me several days to figure out how to post to blogger from my iPad when it stopped working. All this technology makes me crazy!

Joan, we have put 5400 miles or so on our vehicle! Hard to imagine. I am looking forward to your Venice journal. Love how your story comes together and we get to see new places through your sketches and paintings. We are at another cousins for a few days.
