Pastel Painting

Lou (Bag Blog) and Toby came to Angel Fire and we had a great time.  She and I can never talk fast enough.  We share life experiences even though we didn't know each other until a few years ago.  Growing up in New Mexico seems to link us together.  We should be sisters.  We always have fun.

We went to the Vietnam Memorial after lunch to get in a bit of painting time.  Yes, I finally unpacked my pastels.  We forgot the easels though and had to sit at a picnic table to paint.  I have painted there and sketched there several times, but had not tried painting the main Memorial building which is the chapel.

We concentrated so hard that I failed to take photos of us painting or the starts of our paintings.  I didn't even get a photo of Lou's painting.  Maybe she will send one for my blog.

Memorial, 9 x 12 on Pastel Card

This is my result after a couple hours of painting.  I did clean it up a bit yesterday before I took the photo.  I will include a couple of photos below, taken at a little bit different angle.

Valley, 8 x 10 on Pastel Card

Yesterday since I had the pastels out I did another painting from the porch up the canyon.  I worked on it for a couple of hours, too.

These photos are the Memorial Chapel, it sits on a hilltop and is so beautiful a setting and the views are wonderful.  It is a State Park now and they have approval to add a National Cemetery there now.  http://www.emnrd.state.nm.us/SPD/vietnamveteransmemorialstatepark.html

Jenna, https://thecozyred.wordpress.com/, from the Southwest Forum on wetcanvas does drawing and sculpting with wire.  I really like her sculptures.  She posted a photo of her steer the other day that she says has Texas on his cheek.  Well, if you imagine well.  She said I could post it here.  Pretty cute.

We are in Albuquerque tonight to listen to Byrd and Street. http://byrdandstreet.com/ We will also catch a concert by Joel Becktell, http://joelbecktell.com/ our sort of Magdalena friend.  :)  Two for the price of one.  Classical and Americana in one afternoon/evening.  Cool.

Nice paintings, Jo! That is such an unusual shaped building. I like the curved look. The painting of the canyon makes me want to walk right into it. Glad you finally got the pastels out.

We had a wonderful time with you and Gene. Painting with you is always my favorite part of vacation. The Vietnam Memorial was inspirational - so peaceful. I'll send photos when I get myself organized. I'll write more when I'm not on this kindle.

Joan, the chapel is amazing looking. The high poin has stained glass facing to the left of my painting. Thanks on the little painting. This week should be a quiet one, so maybe I will paint. The next week we will have lots of family, so should be fun, but not much art!

Bag Blog, it will be nice to get some photos. It is inspiring to paint with you. I'm on the iPad and always type better on my computer, too. Already looking forward to our next visit.

lovely paintings :) great colours :)

Hope you enjoy the music :) live music can be so much better than a recording. The whole atmosphere of the performance can make a big impact
