It's Hunt 409 Already

A new Hunt as of June 14, where was my mind?

I went to Smithville yesterday to "paint plein air pastels" with some friends.  I didn't feel like toting all my stuff so took watercolor sketchbooks, Micron pens, small watercolor kit with a water brush in it.  One medium size bag.  I met with Sue Wilkerson  http://www.bastropfineartsguild.com/artists-and-their-work/sue-wilkinson/   there.  We sketched at the James Long Railroad Park  http://www.smithvillerailroadpark.org/   at the end of Main Street.  They have their Chamber of Commerce in the old railroad buildings/station.  We sketched, had lunch at the  Olde World Bakery https://www.facebook.com/pages/Olde-World-Bakery/116420795135537
It was a good day.

Luckily for me, the sketches fit in Scavenger Hunt 409 which runs from June 14 - 22.  I never looked at the new list because I thought we were still sketching for 408.

Number 1, building - the building with a loading dock and the front of the station.  There is a gazebo, which is on the list,  down there as well.  I hadn't looked at the list so did not sketch that.  Rats.  I don't recall any gazebos near our house.

Number 2, has more than 4 wheels - one of the railroad cars they have on display there.  It is a pretty green and yellow.  I need lots of practice with watercolor.  I should have used a bigger brush for these.  The sketchbook pages are 9 x 12 inches.  I just had the mini water brush.

The view I painted.  I forgot to put the color on the flag until I was scanning it this morning and downloading my photos.  There is a yellow flag there as well.  Must be a Smithville or railroad flag.

You can see a train going by on the track past the fence.  The "Union" car is one of the displays.  Next time I will sketch the little car as well.

We are supposed to get lots of rain from Tropical Storm Bill, so far only sprinkles.  Gene ordered an electronic rain guage for himself for Fathers Day.  He is putting it up now so we can have very accurate readings this time.  We had one at the other house and he really enjoyed watching the rain and checking without going outside and getting wet.  Ha.  We shall see how it goes!

Great that your plein air gave you a few sketches for the hunt. Nice! I'll have to go over and get the new list...I'm already behind which seems to be my story there lately. Maybe something I did today or yesterday will fit. Hope the rain isn't too bad this time around.

Ha, Joan. We belong to a club .. always late. So far so good on the rain in our area, very little. I guess there has been a lot but scattered out, which helps.

I always like it when you break out the water colors! :-) I ate at the Olde World Bakery a couple of months ago when I went to listen to Melissa and Rebecca play some music. I thought they had a nice vibe and the food was tasty. :-)

Joanna, yep, you do like watercolors. :) The restaurant is very "olde" for sure. Sort of a wait on yourself. Fresh salad. I expected to get a latte, but none there. Ha. Their baked goods looked good, no gluten free baking.

Yeah. I had a dinner roll on the side with a baked ziti dish. Dad polished of the ziti that day. The roll was quite lovely. :-)

looks like a good place to get some interesting sketches :) and very convenient that your sketches fit the hunt :)

Joanna, :-) Now I'm hungry, gotta go find food......

Jennifer Rose, yes, it was lucky that my sketches fit the Hunt. One good thing is that you can usually stretch or substitute! The only real requirement for the items is that they be from life and not photos. Although once in a while sketching a photo or painting might be one of the items, then it is OK. Ha.

Sometimes I see people who do journal sketches in watercolor and they do an amazing job. I don't seem to have that nac. Your watercolor sketches turned out great. Next time we get together, we will do a bit of watercolor. I'll bring my nifty kit.

Bag Blog, I like watercolor journals. Sometimes the sketchers sketch with only watercolor and no lines with pen or pencil. It amazes me.

I would love to do watercolors with you! I will take my watercolor
stuff to NM.
