Loblolly Pollen, Photos - No Art

I mentioned the Loblolly pollen this time of year.  Our white cars are yellow, the sidewalk, mailbox and anything that sits outside.  We bring the furniture and rugs in from the porch.  It is especially difficult to get off the wooden things.  It will last for about 3 weeks, maybe???  The weather will be beautiful and we will have to keep the house all closed up.

I decided to take some photos to give you an idea.  I think I do this every year.

This is a closeup of some of the pods that will turn into pine cones.  They have to shed all the pollen which is the yellow part.

You can see here that one part of one of the pods has shed its yellow and the pine cone is starting to grow.  You can also see some of the yellow on the needles.

Maybe you can see how thick they are on the tree close to Gene's shed and our front door.  These are the closest pine trees.

These are trees outback, loaded down.

This is the front porch tiles.  You can see the difference in color and I took the photos near the same time.  The browner tiles had been covered with a mat and the other has a film of yellow over it which changed the color and the pollen nestled in the cracks.  It will have to be brushed/swept off and washed with water.  We won't do clean it every day, but it would look the same in a short while if we did.

Added about 5:30 p.m. same day.

It started raining so I decided to take one more photo of the pollen at Gene's suggestion.  It floating off on the rain water.    I might mention that the pollen does not cause allergies somehow.  Also this is just the beginning as you see.  Those millions of pods will be exploding in a few days then, watch out!

happens here as well, but not sure what causes it since there are no pine trees nearby but the car gets covered with some sticky pollen from somewhere *shrugs*

It is funny how some things in nature make such a mess like this. Hope this loblolly pollen season doesn't last too long.

Jennifer and Joan, it is interesting. Lucky that it doesn't cause bad allergies like the cedar. Cedar fever is a big problem around here. This also isn't sticky, just sort of dissolves to the stain on wood or porous surfaces.

I'd never looked that the pods up close. That's pretty amazing.

So cool to see photos from around your place, Jo. Great close up shots! Don't miss all that yellow stuff though. We do get the worms here, hanging down from a thread, just like we did there. A lot fewer bugs here than Texas. The worst ones here that are prolific are the stink bugs. Eeeuuw.

Joanna, I hadn't looked at the pods up close either. I saw the brown on that one almost a perfect half and investigated. Lots of possible pine cones!

Regina, I had forgotten about stink bugs. Don't see many here. There were lots of them in New Mexico. Since we don't have trees right over the house, we don't see many of the worms either. At the other house we were always walking into those and the spider webs. Eeeuuw is right!
