Travel New Mexico Photos (no art)

We are still in New Mexico.  We were traveling to Socorro and Magdalena for the annual birthday bash.  There are quite a few birthdays in August and mine in September so we, the elders in the family try to get together.  Other family and friends are invited to Ernest's and Pricilla's for a cookout and to just be together.  I took a few "new photos" on the way back to Angel Fire.  I wonder how many photos of the road up here I have??

The Ladrones near Magdalena.  I take a photo every time we go by.  I have posted quite a few.  http://jocastilloartblog.blogspot.com/search?q=ladrones

It was county fair time.  I got in late for photos of the parade.  Most of the entries were politicians so didn't bother with photos of them!  These were queens.  Not sure if they were the County Queen contestants or the high school rodeo team.

One of the few "floats" that was not filled with a politician or propaganda filled signs.

After the parade I drove through the old plaza, there were a few folks still around.

Also drove by this old house with the low wall.  My mom lived there when she was about 11 years old.

High country scenery on the way.  This was near Sipapu.

Sipapu is a ski area but the summer crowd was being entertained by some bikers crossing the stream and going up the steep slope on the  other side.  They were penalized if they put their feet down as they went over the big rocks.

There is a huge alpaca ranch near Mora.  So many of them that you might think you are in South America.

You know you are in cowboy country when your cow dog waits on the pickup.

Beautiful near the golf course and our summer home.

I'll be back...

I hope you had a good birthday bash. The photos are great. The rodeo queens remind me of when Jesse used to run for Red River Rodeo Queen. The truck and dog photo reminded me that there used to be someone in Taos that drove around with his dogs and one goat in their truck. They all stayed in the truck - very obedient.

Bag Blog, thanks. We had a good time and now we have brothers and sisters here again! We have seen them more this summer than a long time. A friend back in high school had his dog ride with him on the rump of his horse, then get off to work the cattle! Dogs are smart animals! Not sure about the goat, maybe the dogs kept it in check. They are smarter than sheep!!

so very true, add a few saddles in the back as well and maybe a gun rack :p

Jennifer Rose, so true! We went to an old hotel, the St. James, in Cimarron, New Mexico, today and the gun racks were made from horse shoes and spurs. Very pretty and interesting. I hope my photos came out.

Love the photos! They remind me of our cross-country trips. Haven't done one of those in a while!

Thanks, Joan. You do need to come cross country and for a visit!

Jennifer Rose, Thanks! Alberta does have big open skies. We were there a few times in our travels across Canada. Once we went on up to Yellow Knife. What fun! I miss Canada, too!
