Busy Not Doing Much, Sketches, Oil Painting and Photos

We always manage to stay busy not doing anything.  Well, we do take naps and sit on the porch but after all we are retired and on vacation.  That is what our daughter, Jennie says, anyway.

It was beautiful yesterday after a foggy start to the day.  The fog lifted and we sat on the porch.  Gene reads the Austin paper on-line and I sketched and worked a crossword.

For Scavenger Hunt 371, which I'm hosting:  http://www.wetcanvas.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1358126

Number 6, outside the car
Number 7, inside the car
Both of these done in the regular sketchbook with the Micron 05 pen, from the porch.  Ha.

Later I got out the oil paints and worked on a little oil painting view from the porch.  I decided that I would substitute tree line for skyline and include it here as a sketch.  It is far from done.  The sky is way too dark in real life.  At the very least I got the paint brushes dirty and had to spend some time cleaning them up.  That is one of the things I don't like about oil painting.  It takes time to get your equipment out, time to clean up and then time for the painting to dry.  Then you paint for an hour in the middle.

I did use M. Graham walnut oil paints.  I can use them and not get a headache.  I guess I am allergic to linseed oil.  I thought for years it was the paint thinner but found I had headaches even when I used water miscible oil paints.  I put some of their quick dry medium in as I painted.  Maybe I won't have to wait as long on the drying part.

Number 8, skyline - substituted the tree line.  We plan on going to Taos this afternoon, maybe I can sketch a quick skyline there.

While I painted, Gene left on his Terratrike for a ride.  He went on the road toward Mora.  It was clouding up again, so I watched the clouds while I painted.  It began to sprinkle so instead of waiting for his call, I put my gear in the house and went to "rescue" him.  I got there a bit before the rain started, but if I had waited, he would have been soaked.  There is usually lightening in the mountain thundershowers but not yesterday.  Hmmm.

The view back toward Angel Fire where I picked Gene up.

Yesterday morning it was super foggy and then this morning I got up too late for the sunrise.  Beautiful day off the porch!

You have some good depth going in your oil painting. Good color. Good start. I'm counting the days till I get to the mountains.

Thanks, Bag Blog. The sky is much murkier in real life. More work to do. Smile. I'm looking forward to your time in the mountains, too!
