Pastel Sketch

Actually it is the sketch part of a painting I started at the pastel class yesterday with Enid Wood. http://enidwood.com  It is always good for me to get together with other artists.  Inspiring and good for your spirit.  Enid is so generous and such a fine pastelist.  The class was about purple and how to use it in your paintings.

Enid's worksheet included info about how purple can appear warm or cool.  It gives a feeling of distance in landscapes.  It harmonizes greens and creates luminous shadows.

One of the artists that I enjoy his use of purple is Richard McKinley. http://mckinleystudio.com/   I really like his use of purple in trees and landscapes.

One of the artists brought an assortment of vegetables that had purple in them.  She put a few on a plate and shared her still life with anyone that wanted to paint.  I much prefer painting from life than from a photo so I started on the vegetables.  She had a beautiful eggplant there, too.  But you can't put in everything!  Of course I will have to finish from the photo of the set up and my imagination.

My plan was to post work in progress photos that I took on my iPhone.  I could not transfer them to my iPhoto yesterday.  Rats.  May have to resort to sending each by e-mail.  I am having to update the software on my iMac.  So many things are not working with my old system.  Irritating as before I could use programs from the 80s but now everything is going to apps.  I don't care for that, so much has to be done on-line.  Expensive for satellite when you live in the boondocks.  Sigh....

Enough grousing.  Here is the start of my painting, the sketching part, which I am using for Scavenger Hunt 344. (Click on it to see it larger.)

Number 2, hunger - well, something to curb your hunger.  It has quite a ways to go.  It will be called "Mishmash", I think.  Eventually it will be finished and with luck and patience I can post a work in progress of the pastel on Pastelbord, 14 x 11 inches.
