Sketching from a Photo - Don't!

Not true, it is good to sketch from photos, it is just better to sketch from life, I think.  You can see more and have a better chance to capture the light and shadows.  Of course animals to not stay still so you just about have to sketch from photos.

I sketched for Scavenger Hunt 312, the last day is tomorrow.  I have not done many sketches this Hunt.

Number 2, don't -- I sketched from a photo in the SW Forum Quick Draw.  We are supposed to sketch from life on the Scavenger Hunts, so this is a "don't" - don't sketch from photos.    The photo was from mshaiku on wetcanvas.

I have a new camera.     I ordered a little Canon power shot to try.  The Exilim was not very fast between shots like my old Casio cameras were, so taking photos out the window of the car was not very satisfactory at 65 miles an hour.  This Canon will keep shooting if you hold down the button it seems.  I haven't tried it yet.  My Casio Exilim quit working.  Well, it works, but only on automatic with no zoom and flashed all the time.  It is three years old.  I got my moneys worth.  It was a good pocket/purse camera.  I have used the Casio Exilims since about 2003.

I also painted today.  Yes!  I did!  Can you believe it?  I will post it soon.  It is a painting to replace one the paintings I did a few years ago that was sold to a photographer friend and burned in the big Bastrop fire.  I want to deliver it before I show it here.  It has been more than a year and a half .. about time.  It is a similar scene but no where near the same.  The original was an acrylic farm scene in west Texas and this is a pastel of a house on the plains.  So different and the same.  I hope she will be pleased with the new painting.

I have a little Canon camera. You are right about the speed of the picture taking. It can be frustrating. But I do like my camera.

I painted a bit yesterday too. Maybe I will post soon, too.

I sure hope the camera works out!

Joanna, the camera does seem to be good. Just trying to adapt. Smile.
