Scavenger Hunt with Us??

Scavenger Hunt 278 is underway.  Ai from Thailand is the host.  You might think about sketching with us.  Some of us that have been there a while are pretty chatty, but it is not a requirement.  You are welcome to just sketch and post your sketches.  It is a great way to practice and sketch from life.  I tend to sketch landscapes or familiar “easy” items.   (You wouldn’t know what the landscape “really” looked like.)

As you know, sketching for me is a lot like homework.  I will always take the easy road and the challenge of sketching different objects from life has made me a more regular sketcher.  I do think it helps my painting, even though I am not a photo realistic painter.  I see shapes better and make better decisions about lines and perspective.

The Hunts make you think and sketch things you wouldn’t think about like the toilet or under the sink.  You have to investigate a little and figure out the shapes.  Sketching from life and not from photos is more of a challenge and you can see into the shadows.  Sketching people and out in public is interesting and fun.  It is hard at first to feel comfortable.  The Hunts give you a list so you don’t have to ponder over what you will sketch.  Give it a try, you might get addicted.

You do not have to join wetcanvas.com to see the Hunts, but you do have to join to post and comment.  It is free and does not involve unsolicited e-mail.  You can receive private messages and have options about how much info you want public. wetcanvas has forums for any type art you want to try, with help/instruction and wonderful artists.  The Hunts are in the Artwork from Life forum.  I check in on the Southwestern, Pastel and Plein Air for the most part.  I occasionally check out other forums as well.  They are divided by media or interests like landscape, still life, etc.  There are critique, business, debate and more areas to check on.

Number 1, red - hummingbird feeder and number 2, live with two legs - hummingbirds.  Number 3, green - a big tree toward the lakes from our house.

Number 4, orange - sort of burnt orange, a Texas cup.  Number 5, brown - a tiki mosquito lamp on the porch with the wooden table top, too.  Oops, I didn’t color the table top.  Well, color is not a requirement unless it is a challenge.

You might want to check out the Art Instruction Blog for free instruction as welll. Good source of info and help.  I'm even published there.  Smile.....

Bag Blog, there is never enough time for everything, right? I have been taking part in the Scavenger Hunts since 2006, so I feel guilty when I don't sketch. That is good, because I probably wouldn't sketch regularly.
