We are still in the midst of the changes going on with us and around us. We actually got to the golf course on Thursday. It was a beautiful day. We walked the front nine with our new pull/push carts. The old ones are toast of course. We had our main clubs with us so that is good!
This shot of the course as we started is pretty good. The front nine was not burned, the back nine was damaged at 16 - 18 with the bridges burned out. We haven't seen it yet.
Then yesterday the clouds started coming up and we thought maybe it would rain.
The rain clouds over Bastrop as we came back from Austin, Loop 150 towards downtown.
We had been to Austin to watch the Texas - Oklahoma football game and it sprinkled a little at Jennie's. Horrible game. Their Texans whipped up on Our Texans! I would guess 80% of the Oklahoma team are from Texas. They have the game at the Cottonbowl in Dallas and half the crowd is Oklahoma and half Texas. The State Fair is going on, too, so a good time for all. (You can get deep fried butter, coke, Oreos, Twinkies or whatever!) Great rivalry and the OK/Texas players all want to beat Texas 'cause they didn't get to go to UT. Heh.
Jennie made enchiladas and Joanna brought beans and quinoa. Great lunch, thanks girls!! It was so nice to visit and eat home cooking! I made tortillas, hadn't done that since July!
Last night we went to La Grange to The Bugle Boy for a little more R&R with Joanna to see Robyn Ludwick. Good show and good place to see a show, comfy seats, no talking, just music!
Larry spent the night. He took photos at the Tough Mudder up by Paige. He usually ends up as muddy as the participants in the obstacle course. He went up this morning, but it was cancelled as they couldn't get the emergency vehicles into the area. Maybe they are doing an abbreviated part of the course. It is a dangerous thing without the rain and lightening. Hope the day goes well, we need the rain!
Rainy and gray in Bastrop.
A puddle! Look at that!
We also went to First Friday on Friday evening. Deborah Johnson was the featured artist for the Bastrop Fine Arts Guild. Deborah has a nice gallery on Pine Street just off Main across from Grace Miller's. Judy Hawes has her jewelry there and takes care of the gallery some of the time. Stop in and sit on the porch while you decide what to buy!
Local artists have donated works of art
to be auctioned at the R.A.Green Mercantile, 1022 Main in Bastrop.
100% of the proceeds will go to help artists who lost studios and art
materials in the recent fires. Help us put them back to work by going
to the Mercantile during the month of October and bidding on a work of
art. The auction closes at 3PM on October 30. If you do facebook you can see photos of the items up for auction here. I'm donating my painting, "Cherries Jubilee". Stop by and see what the bids are, you may get a bargain!
I am more fortunate than other artists as we were in New Mexico so I had a great part of my supplies with me. I want them to use any of the funds raised for the artists that really need the help. Thank you all!
In general the best way to help me is to help the Bastrop Community recover. I suggest donations to the Ministerial Alliance and the Family Crisis Center. Come out and shop, eat and look around. There are many activities at the Bastrop Opera House, McKinney Roughs, etc. Check on the Bastrop Chamber of Commerce Calendar. Those of us that live here, buy local!
I am an artist that paints in pastels, with some oils, and acrylics. I sketch in pen and ink. As an artist my original paintings are influenced from living in Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, Colorado, Bolivia, Peru and Chile, and travels throughout much of Canada and all our fifty States. This is my spot for posting paintings and sketches, to muse mostly about art, life and a little about UT Baseball.

Hey! Y'all didn't tell me you golfed! Glad you made it out there. And, so glad you joined me for the music in LaGrange and again tonight.
Hugs...
Hi, Joanna. Music was good again. Betty Soo has a great voice. Nice to see Diane, too.
You made tortillas! I'm so impressed. Mine never turn out very good. It sounds like your life is getting back to normal with golf and art. I assume you will be shopping for furniture and such soon.
