Sketches, Flowers, (Baseball note)

Scavenger Hunt 127 has many items left open to artist interpretation. Sometimes that is interesting. Sometimes I like to be told what to sketch so I don't have to think about it and just draw. You remember I am a lazy sketcher. I sketched these in my 7 x 10 inch sketchbook with a Micron pen. A few minutes each, freehand.

Number 4, prickly or coarse. I fount this sad little pear cactus at the foot of an oak tree. The bigger leaves are dry and scaly and the small leaves are bright green and growing new spines. Number 5, grows on a tree. Some branches and leaves on a big oak. The tree is about 20 inches in diameter I would imagine. It is neat how little twigs grow right out of the large part of the tree. From a distance the leaves seem to float as you can't see any limbs.

Number 6, birdfeeders.

Number 7, grows in the dark - potato eyes. Number 8, slippery - ice cubes. Number 9, grows under ground - peanuts.

We golfed the last three days for a change of pace. We walk nine holes and play poorly but enjoy being out. Spring is here. I found these wild lantana on hole number six. The photos are a little blurry, it was pretty windy. They are pretty in the breeze.

Baseball Note and photos:

Last nights baseball game was won by the Longhorns. Read about it on Joanna's Longhorn Baseball Page or the official U. T. page. This weekend the Oklahoma Sooners come to Austin for a series. There is big rivalry there and we are hoping for a sweep! Oklahoma is first in the Big 12 Conference at the moment. Not many games separate all the teams so each series is very important and exciting.

Kevin Keyes wore number 42 in honor of Jackie Robinson's entry into major league baseball on April 15, 1947. Kevin usually sports number 29.

Kevin Lusson made his first appearance in the Longhorn lineup at third base. Kevin on the left and Brandon Loy, shortstop, on the right. I think the umpire is Jon Bible, an impressive gentleman.

Jo: Where are the birds on the bird feeders? I love to see nature while on the golf course.

fishing guy, it was a little weird, maybe the time of day, late evening. I was out about 20-30 minutes on the sketches and saw no birds or squirrels. Usually the squirrels are feasting.

I took my walk this morning checking out houses for bird feeders..not one!!! Maybe people are tired of feeding the squirrels. Good sketches!

I do not think there was any bird feed in then, Jo did not service them while I was in NM all of last week and i don't think I got to them until Wed afternoon. Maybe that is why there were no birds, I can't tell from the sketch.

Hi Joan, I just realized I hadn't answered this. You can see Gene's comments as to why we had no birds, too. The squirrels sure take over.

Gene, you are probably right. I did not put any out and it goes fast. There weren't many sounds of anykind that day. Very quiet. Not even the dog was barking in the back, wherever it is. :)
