Baseball Road Trip, Photos, Bluebonnets

We decided to go to Houston and watch the Longhorns play the Rice Owls last night. It was a great trip and we had a good time ... except the Longhorns lost. After we took the grand-dogs to pick up Jennie and take them to her car we came back and took off for Houston. The weather was perfect, we had a nice dinner and arrived at Reckling Park almost on time. There was a traffic jam around the ballpark. The restaurant area down University Drive was gearing up for St. Patrick's Day and there had been a farmers market in the parking lot. It is only a few blocks and we left about 5:30 p.m. from the restaurant. The game started at 6:30 p.m. At any rate we got in to our nice seats right behind home plate and were all settled in.

There were some really weird calls. Most not in favor of Texas. Who knows if they affected the outcome of the game? Momentum changes quickly in college baseball and Texas couldn't come from behind again. You can read about it on Joanna's page, the official page and the Austin-American Statesman.

We stayed overnight and drove home today.

A few photos:

Bluebonnets on the side of the road near La Grange, about thirty miles from Bastrop.

We saw these old and twisted oak trees while in line for the parking lot.

After we arrived, I realized I better take a few shots as the sun was going down. Rick Hague was batting and you may be able to see that they had green top hats on all the players on the scoreboard. They gave green Rice ball caps to the first 1,000 ticket holders. We thought we might get some, but with the traffic we were a little late. Missed Travis Tucker's at bat, he is the lead off batter.

Same at bat, looks like Hague hit a foul and Comerata was heading back to first. Austin Dacherry pitching, Travis Tucker, second base and Cameron Rupp, catcher.

The cheap seats or standing area. Interesting that they have a tent right behind this area where you can drink beer and other alcohol drinks. You have to be of age to get in and stay there while you imbibe. Hmm.

And the final score. Shucks.... Texas 3, Rice 6

More bluebonnets in the fields on the return between Columbus and La Grange.

I've been to TX a couple of times... nice to see your Bluebonnets ... brings back some pleasant memories, not the least of which is Blue Bell Ice Cream - the most perfect ice cream I've ever tasted. It's not available here in NC - and that's probably a good thing... what's that little ditty...

Yummmm...Blue Bell.

What was I gonna post? The Blue Bell comment distracted me. Oh well.

Teresa, thanks. The bluebonnets are actually pretty scarce because of the drought. Blue Bell is special. They say that they "sell all they can and eat the rest".

Joanna, ain't that the truth. My mouth is watering now.

Joanna's right - yummm, Bluebell. You can get Bluebell anywhere in the country at Outback. Vanilla, anyway. But it makes you feel like you're back in Texas. Chocolate chip mint is the best.... what was this post about?

Hi Regina... We need an on-line sampler of Blue Bell. I like White Chocolate Almond Fudge, I think it is called. All the nut and chocolate flavors. It is soooo good.
