Road Trip Photos, Texas and New Mexico

We are on the road as you know. We started out in the clouds and sprinkles on Thursday morning from Bastrop, Texas, to Grants, New Mexico.

A Hill Country view.

From here on in it was windy and cold. I mean up to 50 mph winds. There was a vacation trailer turned over on the road near Clines Corners, New Mexico, but I didn't put up the photo. Our gas mileage suffered in the head winds so we stopped in Clines Corners. Gasoline was $3.799 there. Ouch!! We put in two gallons to get to Albuquerque. :) I have way too many photos to post now. Maybe later I will add some more of the snow and scenery.

Next we got into the plains and some wet cotton fields.

More plains, the Llano Estacado near La Mesa, Texas.

Then near Moriarity, New Mexico, some snow.

Then past Albuquerque we ran into dust.

And more dust!!

Laguna Pueblo was next.

Greasewood and mesas between Albuquerque and Grants, New Mexico.

Some of the red rock mesas.

Mount Taylor, near Grants. It was snowing up there!

Gene giving the carpet in the hotel in Grants a bit of a squeegee. The water heater broke in one of the rooms just as we arrived. Gene saw the water coming out from under the door of the room on the right. He went to the office and told them and then got his squeegee out of the van and pulled water out the door for about and hour. It took the maintenance people about forty-five minutes to get there. Thanks to Gene the rooms down the hall stayed dry!

Golden rocks on the way back to Albuquerque.

New Mexico is dotted with casinos now. Weird.

Coming back into Albuquerque

We start home tomorrow. Back to t-shirts and shorts for Gene. We won't need sweatshirts in Bastrop for sure.

Jo: Great pictures from your trip. The changing scenery is amazing.

fishing guy, thank you. You realize it is about 800 miles one way. :) Each part has its own beauty, even the barren plains and high desert.

It is weird isn't it to go from shorts, to snow, and back to shorts in just a couple days time. Because we aren't that far from the coast, Los Angeles, or the mountains, we get that a lot here. Especially hot (Bakersfield) to windy at the coast, and even snow in the mountains.

Thanks for the tour. Again I get to travel without leaving my house. Won't be long now till you will be packing again. Don't know how you do it.

Jo, your photos look like potential paintings to me...in a few of them, they are so "Jo" that I can almost see what your painting would like!

Take care.

Rose, thank you. Yes, I have many photos for paintings and never get to them. I must have hundreds of photos of barns and have painted about 4..ha. Thanks for the vote of confidence.

bag blog, that I-40 from Albuquerque to the turn off to Lubbock is so full of trucks. We go through Clines Corners and down to Roswell and home to avoid I-40 as much as possible. Lots of emptiness for sure!

Valerie, thanks for stopping by. The changes are pretty drastic. You just never know. :) It was windy again coming home today but was a tailwind so easier on the driver and gas mileage. :)
