Oh my! If you like chocolate and mint together look what Kasie, Fine Art Friends artist, has come up with. A pretty simple recipe here and sounds so yummy! I will have to adapt it to gluten free and then post that. Ummm.
P.S. (added 5 or 10 minutes later) I should have waited to post this. I went to read my blogs and found this portrait by Susan. Wow! I saw this in real life at the APS Christmas party. It is just full of life.
Susan is a fantastic artist. She whips out portraits with such ease. Or at least it seems so to us that don't do portraits. I'm sure it is the result of many years and much practice. Susan teaches painting in San Antonio and will have a new studio at La Villita where you can learn and see the artist in action. She is planning to open sometime in January, I think. So great for her. I wish it wasn't a whole day trip from here. I do plan to take a workshop with her soon.
I am an artist that paints in pastels, with some oils, and acrylics. I sketch in pen and ink. As an artist my original paintings are influenced from living in Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, Colorado, Bolivia, Peru and Chile, and travels throughout much of Canada and all our fifty States. This is my spot for posting paintings and sketches, to muse mostly about art, life and a little about UT Baseball.

The brownies are actually pretty easy to make. But I warn you...they are evil!
That portrait is beautiful! One of these days I am going to have to try pastel. I admire you pastel artists. Your work has such beautiful color.
:)
Thanks, Kasie. Pastels are addictive, beware! I am so impatient. That is one reason I like pastels. You can cover quickly and change your mind easily. The drawback is the framing with glass. Using the new museum non reflective glass works pretty well, but is expensive.
Later.....
Hi Jo,
The portrait by Susan is beautiful. I love the bright pinks she used. I have to agree with Kasie...pastels are lovely. I had some pastel pencils once and then gave them away recently. Too gritty for me. Are the pencils more gritty than the regular chalk?
Valerie, yes the pencils are more gritty. Pastels vary in grit. The softer the pastel, the smoother it goes on. Most start a painting with pastel pencils or hard pastels. Then you add layers using the very softest for highlights at the end. Each brand of pastels have their own touch as well. One of the smoother is Daler-Rowney, especially the lighter values. One of the softest is Sennelier. Nupastels, narrow square sticks are in the hard category. Pastelists can never have enough. :)
Thanks for the link to Susan's site. I loved her portrait. It would be really great to take a workshop with her.
You are right about the differences in pastels. I am always wanting more.
What a beautiful pastel portrait! You link to some pretty cool stuff!! I'm ignoring the brownie!
Hey, thanks Jo! I was just coming over to ask you something and found you'd put a link to my blog on yours. You're so sweet.
I have questions about the RSS feed you get from my site and others. Do you have Google Reader? I'm behind the times and am trying to figure all that out now. Any advice?
Appreciatively, Susan
Bag Blog, Thanks. Susan is so great both as an artist and friend. :) Did you buy any art supplies in NY??
Joan, thanks to you, too. I'm ignoring the brownies just because I have no Andes chocolates. I eat them if I have them....
Sue, I use NetNewsWireLite as Joanna said it works well with the MAC and is a free download. They probably all work about the same.
Isn't it nice all the comments I'm getting for YOUR portrait? Ha.
I did not buy any supplies in NY. I just barely got to go into the Met. Museum gift shop where I bought a magnet for the fridge - yeha.
