Whirlwind....

A whirlwind around here!  We had doctors visits, routine, and Gene's PT.  Our friend, Sue, arrived from Michigan on Wednesday.  We usually plein air paint and sketch from daylight to dark and then Gene takes us to dinner.  We have slowed down a bit but we did sketch plein air when we went out early a.m. and then stuck to my studio because of the heat.  We had to see the Texas bunch in two batches so our three days were still very full!

I've posted about our escapades before.  We met Sue and her late husband, Wally, in Montana in 1995 as I recall.  We visited back and forth from Texas to Michigan and then New Mexico was added.  Such good times and a great friendship.  We need a couple of days to wind down now!

The first sketches were out by the lake.  Sue sketched a big tree and I did a scene.  The water is so low, almost like a marsh.  In our sketchbooks with watercolor and ink.  We used them for Scavenger Hunt 130, Number 1- natural

Sue's big old tree.
My scene with the pond and stuff growing in the dry spots.

Afternoon in the studio:

Sue painted a barn from a photo she had in the style of Charlie Hunter.  She used brush, ink, cardboard, and just had fun!  This is 9 x 12 inches.

I sketched out the window for the Hunt with ink and watercolor.  Number 2.

An item for the Hunt was something you haven't sketched before.

I sketched in my sketchbook with Micron 03 a little toy that the great grandchildren left behind, last visit.

Sue sketched my toys hanging on the wall with pencils.

This morning when we got back from the airport, Gene took a nap and I sketched on the porch on the page with the toys with the Micron 03 and watercolors.

Number 4, seasonal - the hummers that are probably leaving soon and the bedraggled geranium that is trying for a comeback.  I re-potted it with some new dirt so maybe it will do better.

You can see how dry the east lake is getting with all the junk growing out of it.  We need a gully washer.

Looks like a whirlwind of sketching for you and Sue. It is so great that you have kept up the friendship and visits even though you are a distance apart!

Joan, it is amazing that we still get together. We missed a couple of years with health. But almost every year since 1995! Pretty cool.
