Front Door

Front door is on the list with a challenge to do our own front door.  It was too hot to sketch on the porch so I sketched it open from inside.  It of course, doesn’t bulge!

Number 4 front door - in the large Canson mixed media sketchbook with a Micron 03

I was thinking about doing a still life and about how to show the light and dark and have a more dramatic outcome.  Helen Van Wyk said if the light was coming from the right that is the darkest part, then the light hits the objects with the dark behind the light and passes on to hit on the table or wall again making light against the dark side of the objects.  I did a demo (yikes, 7 years ago) and posted here:

Pastel on Colourfix paper, 9 x 12 inches

This painting is a good example of that with the light coming from the left.

Smart to do the front door from inside. Will have to remember to check out this link.

Jo you always manage to find the best subjects to sketch no matter where you may be or what the weather is doing. Your "Group Hug" is just gorgeous. I am glad you shared about how to manage to make the values pop by observing the light and where it is coming. Hope you have a delightful week. Hugs!

Thanks, Joan. Necessity!

Debbie, thank you. We have here: summer, light fall, second summer, maybe light fall again before we get cool. Ha. I like sharing what I learn, but have been lax about it this year for some reason.

(not so anonymous) Joanna -- ha! Must have been the reason. Thanks for noticing!

I happen to get out my laptop this morning and thought I would drop by. I love the apples. You always do well with red and the light is spot-on.
