Dual Vibrations

I sketch/painted this morning for homework and for the Scavenger Hunt.  I had about an hour and a half before Enid's class where we have been working on vibrations in colors.  The sketch fits for the Hunt as the item, from nature.

Number 2, from nature - a geranium plant I got at H.E.B. (our grocery store) to replace my frozen one on the porch.  The pot is kinda cute but not a permanent solution.

This is a closeup of the flowers and leaves.  For the pastel class I was trying to show the vibrations between the magenta and blue and then the blue and green and again with the magenta green.  Over all I liked it, well maybe a few too many vibrations for one painting.

I still don't have the answer for the highlights on the magenta.  I ordered some new magenta sticks but the light colors go to much toward white.  I think maybe if I had taken time like a "real" painting to build up from the main color to the lighter color it might work.  Also I don't have a soft pastel like Sennelier or Ludwig for the highlight.  I tried pink but it was also pasty looking.

The set up.  The geraniums look red in the photo so I adjusted a bit.

Maybe you have a magenta color combination you could share??  Or brand you like??  What color combination for vibrations do you like?  I like purple/blue green and plain old red and green like for apples.

I will check Terry Ludwig pastels.  I was sad to hear that he passed away recently.  A real pro and maker of pastels.  He will be missed.

Also the Austin Pastel Society has changed the deadline a bit for you to enter the All Texas show.  You have about a month.  Never tried pastels?  Now is your chance to join the fun.   If you live in Texas and want to join in check the Austin Pastel Society

Ah...the answer to my question over at Creative Spark. It is a new geranium plant. Love the colors! They vibrate nicely!!

Thanks, Joan. You know me, love red. Can’t quite find the reddish highlight in pastels for magenta.
