Watercolor, Hmmmm

I'm never sure about watercolor.  Is it worth the time to try painting or just use it in sketches once in a while?  I liked the previous sketch of the soy sauce.

Yesterday I tried some flowers without sketching, using the direct watercolor method.  Not even close to my original idea.  No posting of that.

This morning I tried sketching in the 9.5 x 7.25 watercolor sketchbook.  I did put in the shape of the glass with ink, a Sharpie.  The photo was provided by Kay in Big Spring on creativespark.art in the water media monthly challenge.  The photo looks sort of like smoke behind the glass.  My smoke looks more like yellow mess.  I have no idea how to do that with watercolor.

I did work for an hour or so not counting some drying time in between layers.  The art business tutors say only post your best work but I'm posting this anyway since it was in a challenge.

Guess you could create the smoke by first lifting the paint up with a moist clean peice of tisseu and then color is in with yellow, ...

You ought to get a small mirror to look at your work turned.
You might notice that the feet of the glass is a bit small.
as a last remark try to get hold of rough paper it gives you more freedom to paly with the lost and founds.

In any case I love this little skecth, ...

I went to look at the original photo. That smoke was odd...can't imagine how I would have painted it. Good try, Jo! I like the look of it...and would gladly take a sip of whatever is inside. lol

Joan, thanks It is a pretty photo, the smoke is weird. The photo titled, vodka so might be a vodka martini or just vodka with lime. I always liked gin better than vodka. Ha.

René, sorry to be so slow. Sometimes Blogger doesn't send me an email and I forget to look in my comments. You are most welcome to use my words to add to your comment section. :-) Thanks for the hints on the glass. Maybe I will work on it again. I'm just lazy about checking before I get too far into a painting. The hint for the smoke is a great one. I will try that sometime. I use it for clouds occasionally. And as you know, I don't do many watercolors so forget what I learn. Ha.
