It is the end of another Scavenger Hunt. Number 99. That number might seem significant in some way, but since we have been doing them since 2006 it is just another Hunt. Right? That is a lot of sketches under our belts. I sketch mostly with pen and ink as you know, freehand. We have had a lot of challenges to use other materials, techniques and equipment. I have used most. My favorite for sketching is the pen and ink. Pastels are my very favorite medium so I use it for sketching, too. The sketches can turn into a painting.
Our Scavenger Hunts have to be from life. Not photos or memory unless that is the challenge for the week. We are offered 26 items we can find in our area, common things that we all might have nearby or out in our community. This is perfect for me, I do not like drawing or painting from photos except to jog my memory.
I have reviewed methods and equipment. You can search back and see posts about those using the search box above right. Some of my sketches are much better than others. It just depends on my attention span for the day. Fast does not equate to poor sketching and taking my time doesn't necessarily bring on a good sketch. It seems to be attitude and interest. As mentioned many times, sketching can sometimes be like homework to me. I feel guilty if I don't sketch. After all I do it for fun, at least that is my story and I'm sticking to it.
Today was a combination. I "needed" to sketch and I felt like sketching. The results are OK even though I used an old pen that is running out of ink, so the lines are a bit, well, sketchy!

Number 7 Iron - I had to hunt down the iron on a shelf, I rarely iron anything.
Number 7 Iron - a tortilla press made of iron. It has to be as it came through the big fire and didn't melt.

The Hunters come and go. There are several of us that have been around the whole time. Some of the regulars sketch to renew their skills and then devote time to their painting or "real life". We see them a few times a year. It has been fun and I can't stay away more than a few days. You see Joan Tavolott here commenting. Great explanation of what we do in the hunts. I still enjoy doing them but I'm not as good at finishing the 26 like I once was. I was going to sketch my iron...but it was all the way in the bedroom closet under a few things since I don't iron much either...well maybe a sketch if the paper has wrinkled too much. lol See you in #100.
