Down Tree After Thanksgiving

We had an interesting week and day.  David and Lisa came for Thanksgiving and a good visit.  We went to the Bugle Boy the first night they were here.  David worked on Gene's walker to change the large wheels from the low one to the stand up version so Gene can use it outside.  That took some metal work.

We had Thanksgiving at Jennie's.  She chose the menu as it was also her birthday celebration and then she and Brandon cooked ham and all the trimmings and had us all over for the day.  As a family we play Telefunken, the progressive rummy card game I learned in Bolivia.  Cards and margaritas after the big dinner.  Yummy.  All four of our kids together at once.  Doesn't happen too often.

We had a friend from our days in Bolivia stop in to visit on Friday and Saturday.  Gene's secretary, her daughter-in-law and granddaughter.  Granddaughter and I painted some sunflowers.  It was so good to see Xochilt.

Sunday, today, the Taylor tree company came and took down the huge Loblolly pine that died.  What a project.  Three men worked allllll day to get it down and clean up the area.  The tree was behind the shed next to the neighbors fence.  They got it down with no damage or mess and kept all the limbs in our yard.  Very special work.  They came today as they had a free day, otherwise it would have been after Christmas and the tree was leaning.  We are very pleased.

I sketched them of course, and made the sketches fit Scavenger Hunt 92.

Number 1 multiple - multiple workers

Number 2 makes noise - the huge wood chipper.  It gobbles up the branches in seconds.

You can see the orange dead Loblolly just behind the shed.

Between the sheds, you can see the lean of the tree.

A special cherry picker type equipment to get in that tight spot between that other tree, fence and shed.  Lots of undergrowth, too.

They  cleared the big limbs going ground up, the top was really dead.

So tall.  After getting this last topper, they cut the trunk in pieces and let them straight down on ropes/chains.

Cutting the trunk.  I took this from a video so a little blurry.

Letting the trunk down piece by piece.  What a relief.  It was almost dark when they left, so maybe a photo of the shed minus tree tomorrow.

Glad you were able to be with all the kids for Thanksgiving...and other visitors too.

That's quite a tall tree to take down. Thanks for sharing the progress photos. Glad you were able to sketch it! That is always fun.

Joan, thank you so much. It was good to sketch, hadn't done that for a few days. The guys liked it! We were relieved to have it down. Thanksgiving was great.
